Wow! We were blown away with this resort, it totally exceeded our expectations. From the moment we arrived, we gave ourselves over to their exceptional care - not just from the owners Nadege and Tom, but also from all of their happy and helpful crew.

We were in cabana #2, My Lady. Large and comfortable bed in an oversized room, super bathroom, and a great deck in back overlooking the Macal River. Breakfasts and dinners were superb, served in an open sided great room. The construction details of the cabanas (9, will be 11 soon) and the great room are noteworthy with their high ceilings and exposed wood, beautiful attention to detail by Tom. The grounds were beautifully and naturally kept, growing much of their vegetables and herbs, producing their own chickens and eggs, and about ready to produce cheese from their herd of goats.

Back to the exceptional care: Nadege took us under her wing, helping us decide all of our fabulous adventures. We canoed down the river, rode two of their horses in part of their 185 acres, hiked to a waterfall and swam in its pool, and explored the Xunantunich and Cahal Pech Mayan ruins. The exciting highlight of all our adventures was the awe inspiring ATM (Actun Tunichil Muknal) cave. Not only did Nadege arrange all of these activities, but she also managed the transportation and guide - most of our activities were with Ben Cruise, a very knowledgeable and dependable guide ... much appreciated during some of the challenges when caught in a torrential rainstorm on the top of El Castillo at Xunantunich, and clambering through the ATM cave.

We also had a couple of evenings with Nadege and Tom, a great couple with a dream that they fulfilled (building and running their jungle resort), and we were so pleased to have had the opportunity to enjoy it with them. The two of them didn't stop caring for us when we left: they sent us off to San Pedro on Caye Ambergris with a list of things to do and people to contact.

We would definitely come back here again!

Lovely stay in an unsurpassable setting. We stayed 3 nights in early June. All rooms are private casita's, exceptionally well appointed and clean with views of the river which is just a short well tended walking path away. They provide a wide variety of guided and solo adventures. The grounds are beautifully kept and extensive with a great variety of plants and animals including a lovely organic garden. We enjoyed hiking the jungle paths and toured the ruins at Caracol with Ben as our guide. All staff were helpful, friendly and in the greatest style of hospitaility made our stay seem personal and special at every turn.

Room Tip: All rooms are equally private and provide stunning views of the river

We stayed at Mystic River for three nights in late May. It was our first stop during our trip to Belize, so we had Nadege (the owner) pick us up at the airport and transport us to Mystic River in a comfortable van, with air conditioning! It was about a 2 hour drive, and gave us a great chance to get to know Nadege and ask all sorts of questions about Belize.

The resort was terrific. It feels luxurious given that you are out in the jungle, but in a way that fits in perfectly with the surroundings. The villas are very private and all overlook the Macal River. While there isn't air conditioning, they have ceiling fans as well as a stand up fan that keeps you cool in the evening. The room was very comfortable, especially the great deck and wonderful bathroom.

The two main public areas are the Palapa bar and the restaurant. The bar was a great place for some cold Belikins (the local beer) or cocktail, and more importantly to catch up and share experiences with the other guests (as well as Nadege!). The awesome bartenders will provide you with lots of fun bar games and trivia if you ask. The restaurant is in a giant open air covered building and is very beautiful. They have a full menu with several different options for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as daily specials for dinner. The food was more varied and tasty than I was expecting. One highlight is in the morning, when there are all sorts of birds and reptiles right outside (including toucans and iguanas).

The other main attraction, of course, are the daily adventures you can choose to go on. We decided to do the ATM cave tour and the Saturday canoe trip/town market/Mayan ruin day. No regrets! The ATM tour is simply an absolute must do. Can't do it justice in words - just do it. Ben was our guide for both trips - awesome guy, super knowledgeable, sarcastic sense of humor. The other trip was a great way to have lots of different experiences all in one day.

The last thing to mention was the great group of people we were lucky enough to share the resort with. There were 10 of us, and we all did the same adventure on Saturday. We totally bonded and it felt like we had a private resort with 10 great friends. Six of us even met up for a few nights in San Pedro later on in our trips. Tanya, Aniello, Luke, Justin, Jon, Lesley, Tom and Paige...it was awesome to meet you guys.

Nadege - thanks for creating an amazing resort, and making us feel like family. Can't wait to come back and meet Tom. Good luck with the cheese!

Hello Jon and Angie,
Thank you for such kind words! I am so glad you had a great experience with us and that you enjoyed our tour guides! These guys work really hard to make sure our guests have a fabulous time wherever they go. It truly was a pleasure and an honour to have you stay at Mystic River Resort and we hope you come again in the future. The cheese making is going great! I am practicing the goat cheese for now and will start the other types next week. DELICIOUS!!
Take care and have a wonderful day.

My wife and I stayed at Mystic River for 3 nights in May, 2013. I was initially a little apprehensive about the location, knowing that we would have to eat all of our meals at the resort... but those fears were cast aside shortly after arriving, as the food was very tasty, yet authentic Belizean cuisine.

The rooms are very spacious bungalows, with private balconies. The only issue I would have with the facilities is the lack of AC. The jungle can get a little hot at night, and AC would be nice. The palapa bar and restaurant have a great vibe, and are the perfect place to grab a drink and meet new friends.

The best part about the Mystic River however, is the staff. Nadege and her entire staff consistently went out of their way to ensure you had the perfect holiday. We set up a tour on our own (not through Mystic River) and we found out that morning our transportation broke down, and they would not be able to pick us up. Nadege immediately arranged for her staff to drive us to the tour to meet our guide, our driver then waited in the parking lot until we were finished and drove us back. It's this type of service that sets the Mystic River apart from it's competition.

I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants to experience the Belizean jungle. My only regret as that we did not stay longer.

We have just returned from an Amazing stay at Mystic River.
It is nestled in the jungle of Belize. The property and grounds are very beautiful and lush.
The staff are very attentive and quickly learn your name. They make you feel like you are family.
The restaurant served gourmet food at all times. The evening specials are a must. The chef is very creative with his menu. He never failed to please us.
Nadedge the owner is around at all times helping and planning your excursions. She can be found in the evenings socializing with the guest in the cozy bar area overlooking the river.
The views are amazing. Everywhere you go you can hear the birds chirping and the rustling of wildlife.
When we were not busy canoeing into town, visiting Myan Ruins, off roading in the jungle, horseback riding on the property, climbing waterfall, swimming and tubing in caves we were relaxing in the may hammocks and loungers along the river.
We would highly recommend this property. This is one of the best vacations I have been on.

Thanks Nadedge for making our trip very memorable.
