My husband and I just spent 4 nights at this wonderful hotel. After making it up the steep 350 steps from the dock to the hotel, we were overtaken by the beauty that was all around us. Our room (which was actually more like a cabin, as their rooms are actually sets of cabins) was called "San Pedro" and had an absolutely spectacular view out over Lake Atitlan to Volcan San Pedro. We would spend most of our time at the hotel just relaxing on the porch enjoying the view. Location is great if you're looking to have relaxing quiet evenings, as you can't really go anywhere at night since the boats stop running around 7 pm and there aren't any restaurants nearby. The restaurant is decent and we were able to eat something different and delicious for every meal, but if you're interested in going to different restaurants during your stay then this might get a little repetitive. Staff was all very friendly and helpful. The stairs are worth the climb to get to this gem of a hotel!

Lomas de Tzununa is a great place if you feel like relaxing a day or two. All the rooms have excellent views and the pool area is nice too. But it isn't cheap.

The food isn't that good, and it was probably one of the most expensive places to eat in our tour in Guatemala. I bet you can fine a much cheaper place with similar views (maybe not from your private room though..) and better food.

There cannot be a more beautiful setting for a hotel, overlooking Lake Atitlan and its stunning volcanoes. The climb up is worth every moment and it you cannot walk 350 steps you can be picked up at the village pier. When you arrve you are welcomed by a terrific husband and wife team (Thiery and Maria) and their ever- obliging Mayan staff. The hotel provides rest for the traveller and work for the local community.

This hotel is perched above Lake Atitlan and requires a steep climb from the dock. It is a worthwhile effort, however, because the views are simply stunning and the hosts Thierry and Maria are lovely and helpful. It is tempting to simply linger on the property, but there is also much to do in the area. We spent a fun day at the Atitlan nature reserve (where there is a zip line for those inclined) and the village of Santiago, directly across the lake, which has a a very lively Friday market. There are only two things that could improve the experience: 1) down comforters in the room (the Guatemalan bedspreads are lovely but don't offer much insulation against chilly winter nights; and 2) a bit more effort in the kitchen. On the latter point, I would stress that the food is perfectly fine but not as good as some of the other offerings-- the fish, for example, tended to be overcooked. But all in all, a great find.

Thank goodness someone else had to cancel their reservation because that meant we had the wonderful opportunity to stay in this unforgettable hotel! Every step up the hill was more than worth it, for when we arrived at the top of the cliff, we were rewarded by a very warm welcome and a view to die for. Thierry and Maria have built an amazing place and they love sharing it with their guests.

We were only able to stay one night, but the short stay was the highlight of our Guatemala trip. Once we checked in, we had no intention of leaving and spent our time hanging out by the pool, enjoying delectable meals, gazing at the breathtaking view and chatting with the other guests lucky enough to be staying there.

We've traveled the world and have stayed in many 5-star hotels -- this rivals all of them and shouldn't be missed!
