The Roebuck is a place I often frequent with friends and family. Like all Wetherspoons it offers a decent variety of drinks for relatively low prices (although word on the grapevine is that this will soon all change), but as for atmosphere - forget it. Its a place we go to kick off a night out or have pre-dinner drinks, or somewhere to head to for a nightcap as it closes later than other local pubs. The Roebuck used to employ security, but no more, which is a shame because when coupled with cheap drinks, the laddish, loudmouth element is encouraged. The Roebuck is a place to avoid if possible Friday and Saturday nights for me, as is so, so loud and crammed to burst with so many people it gets claustraphobic and unpleasant. If its a quiet drink you're after, stick to other locals or only head to the 'Buck weekdays or afternoons. The food is...edible and not much else. Some of the barstaff are really friendly and lovely - others are short and sometimes very rude. Its pot luck.
