IORA - The Retreat,Kaziranga
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed May 21, 2013

Iora is a fairly luxurious resort located just outside Kaziranga National Park in Assam. The infrastructure – including several types of rooms, a swimming pool, two restaurants, a bar, a gift shop, and a spa – are well beyond one’s expectations.

One of the restaurants is dedicated to Assamese food, while the other one serves a variety of cuisines. The prices are a bit steep, but then one does not really have any other options for food nearby.

The buildings are quite picturesque. The reception area looks like a gigantic cuckoo clock – if one can imagine a cuckoo as big as an elephant! Once you enter, you notice that the beams are made of bamboo, with chirruping sparrows flying in and out.

The grounds are not very large, but they are full of lawns and flowering plants. There are tea gardens around the hotel.

The staff members are polite and helpful. They take pains to organize elephant and jeep safaris to the Park, where one can see plenty of rhinos, elephants, wild buffalo, deer and a variety of birds.

Really nice spacious rooms with a balcony. Bathrooms were clean. The tree at the entrance and greenry around is enjoyable. The courteous staff would go out of their way to make your stay memorable. The waiters were very informative, and food choices and helpings excellent. A must stay if you are at Kaziranga

A property which truly deserves 5 Star Rating. It is way way better than the other resorts in Kaziranga. Be it the location, the rooms, the food, the service. this place is unbeatable.

We must have checked out at-least 6-7 resorts before we finally laid our eyes on Iora. You will fall in love with this place from the moment you step in.

Gorgeous decor, classy rooms, best amenities, lip smacking food ( Do check out Bhaat Baan for some traditional Assamee food)

It would be a crime to go to kaziranga and not stay in Iora and not eat in Bhaatbaan.

We stayed at IORA for 4 nights. The Retreat is a delightful place with many "colonial" features. We had a spacious attractive room and large bathroom, with a balcony overlooking delightful gardens. The restaurant served tasty & spicy Indian food and the service was immaculate. There was also an Assamese restaurant which served the local delicacies, quite different to other Indian food we have tasted. A large pool for cooling off in after a day out on safari was most appreciated. The hotel arranged excellent safaris into Kaziranga NP, where we saw many one-horned Indian rhinoceros and even a tiger: very exciting! We also did a boat trip on the Brahmaputra river. I cannot recommend this establishment highly enough.

Room Tip: Ask for an end room: slightly bigger with double aspect windows.

Really good rooms. Bathrooms were clean. Spacious. It is the small details that really makes a difference. The courteous staff would go out of their way to make your stay memorable. The waiters were very informative, especially at Bhatban, the hotel's signature Assamese restaurant. The bar menu was quite decent . The safari arrangement made by the hotel for the guest, was like clock work. They also provide a nature guide to show you around the park! Very customer centric services. The drivers were polite and very informative about the animals in the park. You can see the passion for conservation in everyone in the hotel. The entertainment programs organised by the hotel in the evenings were pretty good. I love this place, will come back for more.

We along with official family members visited Kaziranga in the year 2012. It was really very fantastic and brilliant experience with IORA and their overall arrangements for us. They are very energetic and positive people, for every and any arrangements they are ready to serve.

It was fantastic.

Room Tip: all rooms were equally good.
