“Trip away for competition”
Reviewed June 14, 2013

Starters location isvgood to everything not too far away, courtousy bus is great to catch to get the city and to local shops, though the staff were very helpful and couteous the timetables provided were confusing to work out.
The most disappointing thing was we booked a Manhattan room at Rydges so we would have more space than the budget sleep and go, it was very disappointing when we heard and saw our room and other room reviews. What was advertised online and what we got was completly different, our shower toilet and wash basin is fitted in to 3x1m space. Not the photos shown online with views of city, we have a lively view of the carpark, ensure you ring up and double check what you are getting though then agsin I tried that and the receptionist could not assits and told me to book online.
The beds are comfortable and the buffett breakfast great.

All in all ok, though quality of room not worth price, advertising missleading.

Hi Feriver_86,

Thank you for your review, its great to hear you enjoyed your stay. The courtesy bus is definitely the most relaxing way travel to the CBD while you stay here. Due to the layout of the building not all room layouts can be shown on the website, however the reservations team should be able to help next time when you request a city view room, we apologise for this not being the case. We look forward to you staying with us again soon.

Kind Regards,

I stayed 5 nights in a 2 bed Manhattan deluxe room in the south wing. This was a quiet room away from the main road. The room is very spacious and comfortable. Great comfy beds and pillows. Buffet breakfast in the CHILL Restaurant was well worth the extra cost. All staff were polite and helpful. I would stay here again if I was visiting Preston in the future.

Room Tip: Rooms on the south side are quieter and the corner suite has floor to ceiling windows. Great views t...

Booked in for one night for a business stop over. Reception very friendly and room very tidy, albeit a bit dusty in places. As my room was the very last in the north wing on the first floor the traffic noice was terrible throughout the night, felt like I was sleeping on the footpath. The ensuite was very tiny with the shower area being ridiculously small, was no shower screen resulting in the water spraying throughout the bathroom. I had to lay towels down on the floor to mop up the excess water and to lessen the chance of a resulting slip.

Room Tip: Avoid the far north area of the wing.

Hi Kris,

Thank you for your feedback concerning your recent experience staying with us. While all efforts are made to ensure that noise is controlled, during busy periods it can be a little higher than usual. This hotel is very good. Whilst it is perhaps a 6 klm tram ride from the centre of Melbourne City it's accommodation is fantastic. Great Restaurant. The Manhattan units have a kitchenette witha one drawer dishwasher, sn oven and a couple of hotplates. This makes this Hotel perfect if you are travelling for a few days and wish to eat in some evenings.
Overall it is very good with a gymnasium, swimming pool, restaurant and a couple of cafes.
I would highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Corner suites and higher floors. However most rooms are good. Some of the Manhattan suites do not ha...

We have enjoyed 3 comfortable and pleasant stays over a 7 week period covering april-May 2013. Unfortunately, the circumstances initiating our stays were not pleasant but the staff were very understanding, especially during our last stay when we had to keep extending our stay.
Reception staff greeted us pleasantly and dealt with us efficiently. On our first visit we were allocated a room which was not what we had booked, but this was rectified quickly, efficiently and without fuss. Message to potential visitors:if booking into Rydges Bell City (and note there are a couple of ptoperties on this one site), do book a studio room with floor to ceiling windows as other studio rooms have high windows and could become claustrophobic if spending more than a night). The rooms we had were all spacious and very comfortable, most had a single drawer dishwasher and some also a full size fridge. On our last stay of one and a half weeks, these amenities were very much appreciated and used!
As noted by other reviewers, the bathrooms (except the handicapfriendly ones) are a little small, being long and narrow with shower at one end toilet in middle and vanity near door, but they were all clean and well maintained. Beds were very comfortable and rooms quiet.
Onsite parking is available at a charge but can seem very tight until you discover there is further multiple layers of parking under the building-you just have to discover how to get into and out of it!
Overall a good location with fairly good access to public transport, both train and tram, and easy driving. Great if you don't really need to be in the city or don't want to drive in the city.

Hi JayemkayCanberra,

It’s really great to hear about your experience here, and the customer service levels that we pride ourselves on. Thank you for sharing your tip regarding the multiple hotels on site, we do in fact cater for three different budgets here at Bell City, with a 3.5 star hotel (Sleep & Go) and a 2.5 star hotel (budget1hotel). The beautiful 4.5 star Rydges suites with floor to ceiling windows are simply fantastic to take in the views of the north. Looking forward to accommodating your needs in the future, hopefully for a relaxing holiday.

Booked 4 nights in May (Thurs - Sun) via the Rydges Web page as I'm a Rydges Priority rewards member. Location is in Preston and was chosen to due proximity to family.

Rydges Bell City is a refurbished Hospital and is huge: about 800+ rooms. Plenty of parking ($7 night but Bell City hosts many conferences, so parking can be difficult at times.

Reception was very easy and the lady that attended to us was excellent. You prepay at Bell City which helps to make checkout super quick.

Rooms are large with kitchenette, small two seater lounge, table, desk, mini bar. excellent bedding!!! Only drawback is a very small ensuite. Should have pinched a metre from the room size. Rooms receive a "tidy" daily, new towels and tea/coffee and toiletries replaced etc.

We did not really use the facilities of Bell City: has gym and sauna, outside pool. In foyer there is a small shop for basic needs and a cafe. There is also a restaurant /bar but we did not use it. Looked very nice but a bit pricy.

Adjacent to Bell City is the Sleep and Go Hotel which is owned by Rydges. We had two evening meals there: good pub style tucker and reasonably priced. This is a more casual area than in Bell City itself. They still honour the 20% discount on food and beverages (not breakfast) to priority Reward members. It is fully licenced and do deliver to your room for a very small charge.

Overall, we will stay here again. Good quality accommodation at a very reasonable price. We booked early and with member price and taking the 3 night special as part of our 4 night stay, the cost was an average $115 night plus parking. melbourne CBD about 20 mins drive away deoending on traffic. No trams at door but not too far away.

I recommend you join the Rydges Priority Rewards Program. Its free: you get min 10% off rooms, special offers, 20% discount on food and drinks (not breakfast) and 50% room internet if you are interested. You also get points for free nights accommodation but it takes a while to accumulate enough, about 15 I think.

Room Tip: Ask for a Melboune City view room.

We stayed at this Rydges complex over the weekend as we had events to attend in Melbournes northern suburbs. The attraction of this accommodation was it's close proximity to many of the surrounding suburbs and the price. We booked on line and this was among the most competitive prices. The room has been recently refurbished, adorned with many art works rather than the one print on otherwise blank walls and a kitchenette for self catering on a/ small scale.
The room was large , comfortable and the bed from heaven.Parking was and additional $7 We would definitely stay here again
