First impression: Decent-looking hotel. Manhattan design. Spacious lobby. Small rooms.

However, once checked into our 2-double-bed room, we found ourselves in a tiny space with dusty furniture and moist/stained carpet. To make matter worse, the shower drain was blocked causing water to flood outside of the bathroom after a 3-min shower. The carpet was soaked beyond belief (which explained the moist/stains upon entering the room). We reported the incident and the staff sent someone to solve the drainage problem within an hour. At that point, the carpet was soaked through and through. Since the hotel was full that night, they brought a stack of towel to dry the carpet and made arrangements to move us the next morning. They also accepted to compensate us, understanding that it made our first of five nights at the hotel very unpleasant. We appreciated how the staff took care of us, especially 2 duty managers, Samantha and another gentleman with wicked coloured contact lenses (sorry, I didn't catch his name).

The remainder of the stay was reasonably acceptable. We got a more spacious and less dusty room with a nice view of the suburbs. They resolved the WiFi problem (had an issue with altering devices). The 2 elevators were back in service by the third day (at least one out of order at any given time, if not both). They had an enjoyable pool shared with the adjacent hotel.

Final word. Not cheap but decent hotel if you dont mind confined space. Helpful staff. Located close to Bell Station and a grocery store. Nice swimming pool.

Hi megchiu,

Thank you for your review, we appreciate the feedback. Firstly, our sincere apology for the drainage and wifi issues that you experienced, our maintenance team is now looking into both areas to ensure it doesn’t happen again. We are pleased to hear that our staff were attentive and helpful in resolving these issues, and that you enjoyed the rest of your stay. We are also glad you were able to enjoy a nice summer day by the pool, and hope to have you back soon.

I was meeting my sister off a late plane from england and needed a hotel to spend the first night. Rydges filled the bill as it was centrally located and the price was reasonable. It was a surprise to find the room was spacious well decorated and clean. The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom clean and modern. There was a bakery downstairs where we could have croissant and coffee. From check in to departure the staff were friendly and efficient. I had one small problem mt pass card would not let me out of the car park , but that was quickly dealt with by the staff. Highly recommended.

I have stayed at this hotel a few times now & overall find it is comfortable, very clean & cosy. I must say that the bed are the softest i have ever slept in!!! i remember thinking it was like sleeping on a cloud & haven't slept so well in ages.
The only negative i have is i was awoken with the banging of construction men doing the extensions at precisely 7am.
I also found the bathroom configuration a bit unusual (room 641 i think), very small & with frosted glass walls, your husband is resting in bed on the other side of the glass which to me is a little less private than i would prefer.
ALWAYS check your bill. we were charged for mini bar that we never use in ANY hotel...they charged our credit card the next day, but after a phone call, it was reversed.
I will wait a while before returning due to the hotel expansion/noise issue, but nonetheless will return as the position/cleanliness/bed make up for the very small negatives. still recommended!

Room Tip: ALWAYS check your bill AND credit card statement.

Hi balitraveller27,

We agree, the dream bed mattresses here are incredibly comfortable, we get great feedback about them from many of our guests. We are also pleased to hear that our front desk staff were able to amend your charges quickly, our operations team are now reviewing the mini bar checking system. Apologies for the early morning wake up call, you are correct in guessing that there is an exciting expansion happening at present. Hopefully next time you stay with us on a business trip you are free to join us at one of our complimentary corporate networking drinks nights at CHILL.

Good modern fit out, with good facilities and great location for accessing northern suburbs (some of the more interesting bits of Melbourne are in the northern suburbs - Northcote, Thornbury, Preston, including an excellent arts, cafe, bar, alternative culture prevails).
The rooms could do with a little sound-proofing and could definitely use a few more kitchen utensils - this seemed too obviously trying to get people to use the restaurant, rather than self cater in the otherwise useful kitchenette.
The rooms are nice and big, the bathrooms a touch on the small size, but big enough.
We signed up to the free Rydges club (can't remember what its called, but I'm sure there'd be info on the web) and you get good discounts, generally at least 10% off, making it better value.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the elevator shafts (in case works are going on), and away from the end of...

We stayed at Bell City on a Saturday night after a Xmas event near by, and chose it for it's proximity. The room we stayed in was pretty small, and the bathroom tiny. This hotel used be PANCH, which was a hospital, and the room reminded me a bit of a hospital private room. For the size of the room I thought the price was a bit steep, but it served it's purpose of being a convenient place to crash after a party.

It is disappointing that you did not feel your stay represented value for money. It is true that some rooms are slightly smaller in size however our friendly reception team will always assist to ensure guest's receive a room that best suits their needs. Despite your concerns with the room size I trust that you found the service and facilities to be of a high standard. If you are looking for accommodation in Preston again in the future please contact our reservations team directly and they will assist in better meeting your needs.

This was a lovely place to stay. Its a good distance from the city but you can get a bus or tram very near. The staff are very helpful and friendly. It is a large modern hotel which has everything a person would need. The rooms are lovely and comfortable. We stayed for 4 nights but did not use the gym or swimming pool. The hotel kept our luggage for us free of charge on the day of our departure. It left us free to enjoy our last day in Melbourne.

We stayed here for 2 nights for a wedding in the area. We are from Melbourne, so I wouldn't normally choose to stay in the northern suburbs. We requested a quiet room, as we had a baby and wanted somewhere to take him for naps. When we walked into our room on level 7 right next to the lift, we noticed a strong smell of cigarettes. Then the drilling and banging started from the lift being repaired right next to our room. Reception staff failed to tell us there was works doing on, and its ridiculous that they would rent that room out! We walked out straight away, and requested a different room. We were moved one room down which I found later when trying to put my son down for a nap, that the drilling and banging was still incredibly loud. So loud that I couldn't get my son to sleep. This made for a very difficult afternoon with an overtired screaming child.
Another thing I didn't like was the windows were covered in 3 separate blinds so in the morning the sun shines through, reflecting off the huge mirror lining one whole wall above bed, waking me up at 5:30am.
On the positive side, rooms are modern, decorated nicely, with a very comfortable bed. The rooms are big enough to move around, and the kitchenette is handy.

Dear thispreciousearth

Thank you for taking the time to complete a review following your recent stay at Bell City. As you have noted we are in the process of upgrading the hotel elevators in order to provide a greater level of service in the future. Please accept my sincere apology that the reception team did not make you aware of this on arrival and seek to minimise the disruption caused. The team have been instructed to assist all guests' to ensure these necessary works are completed without inconvenience to our guests'. I will ensure that this point is again reinforced as these works will be continuing for the next two months.
