“You pay for what you get”
Reviewed March 7, 2014

Staying as part of a work conference and was told we were staying at the rydges - was confused when I was sent next door to check in here - confusion turned to dismay.

The room is very nice and clean I would say about 3 1/2 stars but as a female I feel very unsafe here, there are lots of shady characters hanging around lots of long term accommodation and apparently department of housing people stay here when their accommodation is being repaired.

Reception staff are a little rude which was a surprise as all the conference staff are fantastic.

I see lots of tourists stay here from reviews and it boggles my mind why - it's not the best suburb or near anything and public transport is the train station about 5 min walk away no trams - I think if your visiting Melbourne or Australia with no car do your research and stay elsewhere.

I think the attraction is possibly the cost - I looked it up out of curiosity - I am glad I did not have to pay.

We have another conference soon and if I am not staying at the rydges I will book my own accommodation I do not feel comfortable here.

Hi MrsMBallarat,

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us at Sleep&Go Hotel, we appreciate the feedback. We were disappointed to hear that you felt unsafe on the premises, as we take great care in our security and are very thorough in screening all long term accommodation applicants. When you next stay with us at Bell City please don’t hesitate to talk to our staff about any concerns you may have, and they will be happy to assist. We were pleased to hear that our conference staff were great during your event and have passed this feedback through to them. Addressing your concern about the tram, there is actually one only a block away on Plenty Road, that goes straight to the city via High Street and Smith Street, please don’t hesitate to chat to our guest services staff if you’d like any help with locating transport options, they are always happy to assist.

We hope to see you again soon, at Sleep&Go or our Rydges property.

Kind Regards,

I am staying at this hotel for 2 months during my trip to Melbourne . The rooms are clean , staff helpful , free of charge pool and Gym and Free service to CBD everyday . I have enjoyed my trip so far .

The price is reasonable and each floor has ashared kitchen and Laundry services which is not very crowded .

I would really recommend this hotel for long term as well as short term stayi while in Melbourne

If you are looking for the cheapest 'hotel' you can find in the Melbourne area, then this may be it....however
1. Not the easiest hotel to find and not located within an area of good amenities - but to be fair, it's a ten min walk to Bell station and a large shopping centre is 2 miles away
2. Rooms are terribly small
3. The walls are paper thin and so you can hear 'everything', and I mean everything, that goes on in the rooms each side of you
4. Even with earplugs you will not sleep because the sound insulation is shocking and every bang or door closure will wake you. Everyone seems to slam the doors in this hotel. Should be renamed the 'non sleep and go'
5. $18 for breakfast if booked in advance and no local alternatives - unless you want to walk a mile to McDonald's along a very busy road
6. Reception is understaffed and not the friendliest, although to be fair, they were very busy
7. If you like to have a toilet in the very small shower, then this is the perfect place - travelled all over the world and never seen anything like this
8. Very noisy air conditioning that sounds like it will die any moment
9. Single pane window and so you get to enjoy the traffic noise

Cost me $300 for 3 nights, so not the cheapest available.

I think I will file this one down as an 'experience'. Just not a good one. Good luck to all that enter

Hi Tiredtraveller2014,

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at budget1hotel, we appreciate your feedback. We are concerned that you didn’t enjoy a quality sleep while with us, and apologise. Our maintenance team have been notified to check the air conditioning units, and we will also take on your suggestion to find out how to further noise proof the rooms. If you do choose to stay at the Bell City complex in the future, talk to our friendly guest services staff about the great local boutique cafes in the area, including Little Henri, Lowlands and Umbraco, all of which are even closer to walk to than the train station.

Kind Regards,

nice hotel most of staff friendly and helpful apart from little blonde one, was a little rude on arrival but seemed to cheer up when leaving. restaurant staff where great could do with a little more choice. pity was not closer to CBD but train station 5 min walk, wish they could pick it up and move it closer. Rooms didn't get a proper clean but that could be down to not leaving late in the afternoons.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights during a stop over. It was ideal for this and in saying that I would stay here again on future trips to Melbourne. The room was clean and bed very comfortable. There was no problem with us checking in to the hotel at 3am in the morning and the man on the desk was very upbeat and helpful at this time of day!! We stayed here during a very hot time in Melbourne and the pool area was fantastic. The whole place had a great feel and the woman in the restaurant was very very efficient. Coffee was outstanding and happy hour was actually two hours, a very good bargin!

Hi Aimee4,

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay here, we are so glad you had a lovely time. The pool was definitely a hit last week, it's great you had the time to enjoy it and cool off in the extreme heat. The CHILL happy hour extension has also been a hit with guests and locals, stay tuned for more specials being launched there early this year. Looking forward to having you back again soon!

Closer to the train station and about 20 minutes from CBD and International airport. AusPost is next to the hotel. The hotel has computer in the lobby to access the internet. The hotel also has a swimming pool and restaurant.

I found the hotel service and staff were good and friendly.

I stayed in this hotel for 10 days. The hotel is closer to the Bell train station, tram & bus stop and is around 20 minutes from the CBD (Downtown). There is Australia Post right next to the Bell hotel where you can buy a SIM card or even send a mail. The closest shopping mall is the Northland Shopping Center. The best way to this hotel from Melbourne-Tullamarine Airport, the best way is to book shuttle bus "Airport Bus Eastside". www.airportbus.com.au. They run from the airport directly into Bell City and charge 30 AUD.

The room has a refrigerator, microwave oven and TV. The hotel has a restaurant, swimming pool, 2 computers for internet browsing (6 $ an hour). The bathroom could have been bigger.

I found the staff and the housekeeping to be good. I checked out the hotel at 6.15 am and the day before the check out, the staff at reception were kind enough to book a taxi without charging extra.

You can hear the conversations of the next room when they have left the window open which is quiet annoying when you try to get some sleep.

Overall, it is worth the money you pay and is safe for woman who is a lone traveler.
