“Great place to get good coffee and good”

A bit of a favourite place, Michael the owner is welcoming and adds a good vibe to the place. Located next to the south Melbourne town hall in bank street. All guaranteed to leave happy.

“Good food and funky place.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 29, 2013

This was the first time I had been here. I had the BLT and it was very tasty. My man has the calamari as recommended by a staff member. Neither dish disappointed us. Service was fast and our meals arrived fairly quick. All in all a great experience. We sat outside and had a view to the city. There are old buildings in this area also and they are great to look at.

“Unimpressed”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2013

I ordered the Stack with 2 poached eggs on wilted spinach ( very little) melted fetta( ver little) tomato( really!) & bacon on small toast. $15 for what was on the plate!
Red Star coffee cappuccino was warm, too milky & tasteless.
Waste of time being here.

“The BEST coffee in Melbourne, period.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2013

Sure, you COULD go to one of those places where everyone air-kisses, talks too loud and where Kelly Birkin bags are outnumbered ONLY by the number of patrons with tiny scars behind their ears, frozen-faces and collagen lips BUT....you'd be deluding yourself that the service you received, that the meal you ate, that the coffee you experienced...was anything short of spectacular, authentic and made by one of the most passionate, engaged and customer-focused owners in Melbourne.

Enter Michael Sergi. The long-time proprietor of Zappa brings a little bit of Italy and a whole lotta passion to feeding the local populace. Astonishingly good coffee is backed up by some of the best Italian food this side of Roma. Thursday is gnocchi day (home made), Friday = calamari and Saturdays...? Well, if you want a brekky that'll leave you satisfied with coffee that is superb then drop in.

Ignore the mismatched tables and chairs, pay no regard to the crazy tribute to Frank Zappa that abounds on the walls - this joint is simply one mans vision of bringing his childhood kitchen to the masses. Come in, sit down and order a "tony". Tell them Paul & Anne sent you and trust me, you'll soon be in coffee heaven...

“Great coffee, great food and great atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 5, 2013 via mobile

After reading reviews for South Melbourne this sounded like a good option. The coffee was good and the breakfast generous and perfectly done. The purgatory dish with chili and poached eggs was Goldilocks 'just right' and the eggs Atlantic was also perfectly cooked. I would be happy to I live around the corner to drop in every weekend.
