Go here now. The prices are amazing, the quality is excellent, the service is pretty good. You get serious bang for your buck here. All the dishes are fresh and generous and tasty.

Samurai has been trading for about 20 years and has become a bit of an institution for locals. The food is very tasty and fresh. The menu is large and the serves are a fair size.

Don't expect subtle flavours and beautifully laid out food. The chicken teriyaki tastes good but the flavours are not subtle. The agedashi tofu is fantastic as is the sashimi set. Nori rolls are wonderful too.

This restaurant serves a huge number of budget diners every day. The tables are squeezed in down and upstairs. It is best for a quick dinner. You can then walk a few paces to one of the myriad of other eating institutions on Glenferrie Road for desert, coffee or a drink.

Such good value. That price range of $25-$90 is rubbish. A dinner box always fills me up and thats $15 or so. A soup, entre, main and dessert or drink is in the dinner box. The thickshake is one of the nest going around, its so think you wonder if its just icecream. So many times i get a think shake now i have to ask for more ice cream. not here.

For entre, try the agadashi tofu or the crumbed chicken (you get two massive peices and then wonder if you can even finish your main). Often when I get take away with the mrs, we have enough left over from 2x dinner boxes for lunch the next day.

Its a Hawthorn Icon. Head there if you are on a budget or love Japanese food but at a price everyone loves.

I have eaten at Samurai many times now and even though not within my normal field of travel is well worth the effort for a quick and tasty lunch or dinner. This quite small restaurant doesn't take reservations but as long as you are no more than 4 persons your wait if any will be short. The food is what I think of as classic Japanese and is tasty and beautifully presented by a warm and friendly team. It is served quickly and is priced well such that it invites a return every time your taste buds say Japanese please. I nearly didn't write this review as I wanted to keep this a secret for my own indulgence. It is that good.

Great local Japanese restaurant / cafe, where the food is actually made by Japanese chefs which seems to be rare these days.
