Plates are expensive for their size and at ordering you wonder if it is a rip off - then the food comes and you realise this is food with a very high labour content done to perfection - we ordered extra and will will go back without hesitation.

We used to love this restaurant until our latest experience. We went for a Christmas and Birthday celebration with our family. After waiting for 20 minutes we finally ordered drinks. Didn't matter, we were happy to just make the most of the night and could see they were busy (and under staffed). When the waiter dropped the entire tray of drinks for 5 on the floor smashing glass everywhere and spilling all over us we stayed calm and felt sorry for him. The two who were the most effected (felt broken glass on our bare legs under the table and were wet down our backs and legs and feet stood to make way for the broken glass to be cleaned up.) No apologies: never mind, we were still in for a good night. We felt sorry for the waiter. Our drinks eventually came after another outrageously long wait (we asked and they said "we've been thrown out by what happened"). After such an event rather than look after us, they seemed to almost go the other way and ignore the table. We paid for our bill and left a modest tip. At no stage did anyone acknowledge the drink spills. When leaving the restaurant I was thinking perhaps some apology might come now. Instead the head waiter did not even see us out or thank us. He merely stared at me as we left. Behind me followed my adult son, who said "Good night thank you" to which the waiter ignored and responded by turning to another staff member and said audibly :"Have they even paid?" And the other staff member went rushing to the table to check. This was the response my son's good manners got. At this point my husband realised what was going on and said "Thanks we waited 10 minutes for someone to come and take the money but no one came. Now, I'll have my change thanks." Who spills drinks on you, ignores the table, doesn't notice the bill is ready, then doesn't acknowledge some goodwill when leaving and then quietly accuses you of not paying? It was arrogance beyond belief and the most outrageous experience of bad service I have ever experienced in my life time. It was insulting and worst night in a Melb restaurant ever.

We recently had a Christmas lunch at Lulo's for our small team of 7. One of the first problems you'll encounter is finding somewhere to park. There is limited street parking on Glenferrie Road but the spots are like gold dust and most of the side streets are permit parking only. After a few laps around the block we got both cars parked and found the restaurant/bar.

It is very smartly presented and had a good selection of Spanish food and wine. We decided on the lunch menu of 5 tapas and drink for $30 - you select 5 tapas plates from the menu and they delivered, in our case, 7 portions of each selection.T

he food, though in fairly small portions, was delicious and beautifully presented. The Zucchini flowers with three different Spanish cheeses, the Spanner Crab Meat and the Chorizo in cider were particularly tasty. At the end, you'll have plenty of room for dessert,

We dropped into LULO tapas & wine bar at 798 Glenferrie Rd, Hawthorn, Victoria at the invitation of a good Melbourne friend, what a find it was. Owner/chef Matt Waldron plated up some of the most innovative tapas we have seen and tasted. Added to this is a great range of interesting wines, both by the glass and bottle. The set price lunch with a number very creative tapas dishes was just the ticket and highly reccomended.
