Had 4 meals at the Surf one week, very tasty but not consistent service wise

We had 4 meals there one week, Breakfast lunch and Dinner. Lunch was very tasty club house and salad see photo (but not sure it could be duplicated), and went over very good with all guests, (hydro outage in area but they have generator), Dinner 2 separate occasions one night was Drunken burger which was very very good, and different burger the next. Careful what you order as substitutes are not catered too and seem to annoy staff when asked. Breakfast one morning after 2 great experiences 1 mediocre experience for dinner and lunch came the down fall Breakfast!! I took a business acquaintance hoping to impress, after waiting some 28 minutes after ordering and waiting for a second cup of coffee that never came we got a mediocre breakfast, the one lone wait staff made a few excuses about how busy it was and they did not expect any customers. I guess he will have his wish I will not be back or recommend to anyone.

Stopped here on a rainy Saturday in July. Patio has a good view of the beach. If you're in a large group, you cannot rearrange tables on the patio. Signs are posted, as the tables are fragile. Indoors, larger groups can be accommodated.

Had wings, nachos, and coconut shrimp. All were tasty. General consensus in our group of 11 was the food was good. No issues.

Service was reasonable, as were the prices. Ambiance was sports bar/ pub.

Washrooms could use some serious attention/ upgrades.

As a Balm Bch vacationer, I have visited the Surf 3 times - nice ambiance/indoor & patio - love the photo displays capturing Balm Bch heritage. Wish I could rave about the food - unfortunately my 3rd visit this past week was another disappointment - liver & onions soaked in gravy was mediocre and for the 3rd time, the roasted potatoes were dry as the beach sand - finally decided to bring it to their attention - they were pleasant and replaced it with mashed potatoes. My friend from Midland had the roast beef - hate to say it, but it was terrible - she hacked away at it with knife/fork - finally gave up on it. Chose not to complain, but says she won't return - she has eaten here before but considerately did not share her disappointing experiences (what doesn't appeal to one, may appeal to another). I have never submitted a review before, but I love Balm Bch and hope the Surf will find this review helpful. Thanks to the great reviews about the breakfasts, I will give it one more shot and try their breakfast menu and hopefully the opportunity to submit a 5 star review ! Georgia Gal

We are regulars and the reasons why are too numerous, but they all revolve around: Great value for your money; great service in a lakeshore/beach setting, quaint, casual atmosphere, really friendly owners, and the chef (Bill) is professionally trained (how they got him is a mystery to me, but the preparation and presentation on the plates, is very cuisine-like. Our year-round country home is nearby, and we take every opportunity to dine at The Surf....plentiful breakfast plates, scrumptious lunches and dinners; great spot for solo, couple, tourist, local dining, and make sure you attend their annual New Years Eve dinner....many times, it's the kind that when you start eating, you just don't want to stop !

It's right on the beach so the view is fantastic, especially when the sun goes down.

Every year we come up from Texas to get some "Canada" time (we're Canadian, but live down there), and no vacation at Balm Beach is complete without breakfast at The Surf. The breakfast potatoes are awesome, and everything is just so favourful. Just perfect.
