Nice area in the mountains. Is the most beautiful temple in the city. Short trip to reach in a pitoresque rroute. In the middle of the forest. If you go early in the morning it will be more quiet and peaceful.

went there during lunch our so it was a bit hot, you can try to walk up the stairs 300+ steps, otherwise there is a lift going up but you have to pay small fee. there are nice view on top.

Doi Suthep itself is remarkable. You get a great view of Chiang Mai. Thats probably the best and only part you really get to enjoy. On the way up, There are plenty of markets and food vendors. You come to expect it when in Thailand.

The little girls in dress up at the bottom of the stairs are adorable. We got photos with them and they were very kind and fun to take photos with! You get to the temple and it does feel verryyy touristy which is to be expected somewhat. I just can't get over the view, Its insane!

Mixed feelings about having to pay 30thb because im a foreigner? Again, Temples are suppose to be free, Feels like a cash cow.

I rate this so poorly because of the stupid Songthaew drivers:

We did the Zoo prior to this. Right out the front of the zoo is the Songthaew stand where you get transport up the hill. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU GET A PRIVATE TRANSFER AND TO NOT USE THE SONGTHAEW GUYS. Songthaews are very cheap yes(40thb pp one way), But you have to wait until they have 10 people at a time to squeeze in the back. We had to wait about an hour till they had enough people to take up. They take you up and give you enough time to check out Doi Suthep which is great. However with us, Our driver dissapeared for 1/2 hour and no one knew where he went. He then made us wait even longer until we left. NEVER use these thieves, What a waste of time.

You can get a private transfer up the hill easy; Lots of the silver vans (taxi's) go up there. Its only a 10 min ride so it will be cheap. I can't stress it enough, Don't use the Songthaews. Waste of time and waste of money.

We took our rented scooter up to Doi Suthep one evening and loved it. Keep in mind as you get higher it gets colder, so don't make the mistake I made wearing shorts and a tank top. Also, one must have sleeves and girls cannot wear shorts in the temple. BUT, if you made the mistake I did (see previous sentence) you can pay 10 baht and 'rent' a shawl and a skirt. You might look a bit gaudy in the mismatched outfit but hey, you get to visit a beautiful temple worthy of lots of pictures!

Buddhist temple atop a mountain overlooking Chiang Mai. The temperature change going up the mountain was noticeable and we enjoyed the cooler weather at the Wat. There are quite a few steps to the Wat from where your transportation drops you but there is a tram available for a fee. The Wat is interesting and displays some influences from other countries.
