The day we were there the Wat was not overcrowded, and I wouldn't want to be there when it is! Beautiful grounds and inside the temple parts, visitors polite and reverent, colourful, inspirational, rich. Took the tram up and walked down. Don't be talked into buying souvenirs.

We found this temple was very interested in interaction with guests. We met a couple of monks and received blessings; we are not Buddhist and they knew this.

Lovely view over Chiang Mai. You Can walk the 300 stairs up to the temple area or go by tram. Lots of flowers and trees.

The drivers that take you up want a lot of money for a quick trip to a temple on the hill. It wasn't that special after seeing many temples around town and Bangkok and when its hazy out, there is no view from the top.

Nicely located on top of a hill but even in off season it is filled with tourists so it really takes away any charm. Plenty of street vendors that come with it. So I would suggest if possible to come ver early before all tourists arrive then it may be peaceful and serene otherwise not.
