Nicely located on top of a hill but even in off season it is filled with tourists so it really takes away any charm. Plenty of street vendors that come with it. So I would suggest if possible to come ver early before all tourists arrive then it may be peaceful and serene otherwise not.

We chose to take the cable car up to the temple in the evening. I guess we missed a ritual that monks carry out around 5:30 PM. But the silence at the temple and the views from the temple were just amazing

It takes about 1/2 or more to get there but well worth it. Nice country-side to see. Loved the steps to get up to is and the views from the top. We happed to be there when it was very slow, mid-day. But is was hot, hot, hot.

I know this is an important religious site, but I felt no sense of reverence or awe when I visited. It was extremely crowded and felt like Disney World. The view is beautiful, however. Maybe if you went on an early weekday morning it would be more manageable.
Lots of touristy market stalls all around the place selling food and trinkets. Public bathrooms, but they are traditional Thai squat toilets. Bring your own tp and hand sanitizer. The bathrooms cost 3 baht.

Seeing this Wat was the highlight of our day trip. What a remarkable temple to the Buddha. Easy to get around especially with the rail to the top instead of the 364 steps! A definite MUST SEE!
