Went to see Oedipus Rex at the theatre in July and it was a very memorable experience that I am so glad I did not miss. There is a certain amount of traffic chaos due to the numbers but we managed well and the people were very well behaved! Such a stunning setting to see the sunset and a moving drama that kept our interest.

About 30min drive from Nafplio ,best to arrive early , there is plenty of car parking space , there are several toilets on site and a good cafe / restaurant .
It is wise to budget for a couple of hours to visit since it is not just the theatre that can be seen but also the rest of the archaeological site .
The theatre is amazing and still in use , it is reached by a 5 min walk from the car park and is well sign posted .
If you are energetic it is possible to climb the steps to the top of the theatre.
This is a remarkable place to visit

Well worth the entry fee just to experience the theatre itself, so do go even if you do not usually visit archeological sites.
Fantastic construction and circular shape of course means acoustics are perfect from the central focus.
If you take a turn to stand in the centre, look right around from left to right. There is an amazing feel of the audience for the performers too. You can feel this too.
The museum is good and there is a further massive area to walk around too in a site that is beautifully kept.

I don’t think it’s necessary for me to say anything. Just visit and when you do, don’t just go to the amphitheatre. Visit the rest of the archaeological site. It’s extensive and very worthwhile. Allow at least a couple of hours.

The excavations and remains are not so much speaking to the imagination as some of the other ancient sites. The theatre itself remains impressive to experience.
