“Probably the BEST ancient theatre.”
Reviewed March 6, 2013

If you are interested in the ancient theatres this is a must see. We have seen several and this is probably the best one. (Aspendos in Turkey is very close) The site itself is quite relaxing in the pine trees, etc. It was Spring so the flowers were blooming and the sun was out so it was just a lovely afternoon stroll and climb to the top seats.

“Historical Drama”
Reviewed February 15, 2013

While visiting Greece this past summer, we had the fortune to book tickets to the opening play of the Epidaurus Festival, watching Oedipus Rex in Greek. The theater possesses amazing acoustics and the setting (sitting within a hill with an amazing view of nearby mountains) is one of a kind. We do not speak Greek so we read up on an overview of the story and that allowed us to follow the action easily enough. It is a bit of a trek to get out there and when going for the festival, get there early as the crowds are plentiful but if you travel all the way to Greece and do not check out one of the classics in one of the best preserved ancient theaters in Europe, then your experiences are not complete. I cannot recommend this place enough.

“Check out the healing centre, as well”
Reviewed February 9, 2013

This is an easy day trip from Napflio, about an hour by car, we drove ourselves, signage is poor but there's only one road leading here, so it's hard to miss and people will give directions if you're lost (i.e., haven't seen any signage for some time!).

The theatre is amazing, so large and in good shape. We weren't able to attend a performance, but listened to a tourist belt into song, which was fun. The small museum doesn't have too much in it, but does mention the important and well-known healing centre that was at this site in ancient times. We checked out the theatre, which didn't take too long, and then spent the rest of the day exploring the rest of the site. We had a good guidebook, which really helped to know what we were looking at. This is a huge site and there were lots of interesting things to see, yet we were practically the only tourists in this part of the site. Apparently people would come from afar to be healed from whatever affliction and there are all kinds of testimonials of people being healed. Granted, much of the site is in ruin, but you can still sit on the benches where the sick were healed, view the baths and visit the well where they cleansed and purified themselves. All-in-all, it's quite an interesting site.

“Great Theater”
Reviewed January 5, 2013

One of the best-preserved of the ancient theaters. Ancient plays are presented during the summer months.

“superb theatre!”
Reviewed December 26, 2012

If you're spending your holidays on Peloponnese then you have to visit this place as it's a MUST for every tourist!
The theatre itself is well presented and well kept. You can sit on the audience or try to performe something from the middle of the building. It has incredible audio capability, the sound goes to every part of the theatre - incredible!

Don't miss and go to the museum as well, the ticket which you will buy includes the entrance to it so no need to buy additional ticket. It's quite small but filled with a lot of cool statues, part of buldings which were gathered from the Epidavros place.
There's also a souvenir shop next to museum building.

There are few direct buses from Nafplio to Theatre of Epidavros.
