“OK hotel and restrurant”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 7, 2013

I stayed two nights in this hotel while on a birding trip with 11 others. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. There was a general employee strike notice on the entrance door so that may have effected the minimal services experienced. There was no wifi nor internet service on the two lobby computers during our stay. The breakfast was the least offered at any of the 8 hotels we stayed during our 2 weeks in Argentina. It consisted of orange juice, coffee and two types of pastry. We ordered lunch and dinner off the menu and the food was generally good. The service left a bit to be desired with some folks having completed their meal before others at the table were served. The food was generally served hot. One memorable meal was to order the steak or pasta that was prepared for quick serving. We waited over 45 minutes while other, smaller groups that came after us were served the same meals we ordered - the pasta and chicken were very good when it did arrive! For our group, this was generally rated the worst of our accommodations in Argentina.

My teenage daughter and I stayed one night at Hotel de Turismo and it was perfect for us. The beds were very comfortable and the room was quiet (room 108) so we slept very well.
We ate lunch at the hotel and we found the service excellent and the food very good. We had a cream of mushroom soup and steak and mashed potatoes. All very good! The room was a bit "old" but fine for us. The towels were of good quality (not those thin, thin towels that are so scratchy!) The reception was very helpful and kind.
There is wifi too, which was very convenient. There are two other computers in the lobby to use as well.
I stayed here 6 years ago and I can say it is about the same. I would definitely recommend the hotel, although it could use a little updating. The staff is wonderful though!!

Room Tip: stay near the lobby to get wifi in your room

We stayed here just one night on the way to Laguna de los Pozuelos, which is an amazing place for watching birds. We paid 140 pesos per night. The room was adequate and there was hot water. We had dinner there, which was simply prepared but actually quite good. I had some local trout. Breakfast was pretty basic, but they did prepare it early for us so that we could get going.
This hotel is apparently owned by the city, and there is a lot of staff turnover. But they did have Internet access from computers in the lobby, which was helpful. I would say this hotel is perfectly adequate if you just need a place to stop along the way.

I was rather worried about staying at this hotel, but there was little choice so I packed sleeping bag liner and meal bars on the basis of existing reviews.
Let me say that in my opinion the hotel was not so bad, it is 'well worn' but is perfectly ok for a nights sleepover.

We stayed twice (once on the way into Bolivia and again on the way back from Bolivia) and both times both the bedrooms and the bathrooms were spotlessly clean. Further there was plenty of hot water for showers, a restaurant serving freshly cooked functional food, and whilst our breakfast was of a standard Argentine type, when asked, the kitchen will happily produce a plate of freshly cooked eggs.
A double room here is AR$120 and dinner for 2 with a bottle of wine is under/around ARS$100, at that price it is good value for money and fine as an overnight stopover place.

  • Liked — provides safe, clean accommodation in an area that has almost no other options
  • Disliked — nothing

La Quiaca is not the nicest place to stay. I was worried when I discovered that there was only 1 hotel in the area and the rest were hostals-hosterias. Everything about this hotel was bad, the food, the rooms, the dirty bathrooms but there wasn´t another option.
