This new restaurant on St. John’s in Port Moody is a great new addition to the Indian cuisine in the area. Their recipes for traditional favourites are sometimes a touch different from what you might be used to—less smoke in the Baignan Bharta (Eggplant) and more turmeric, the Lamb Vindaloo a touch less sour—which we found to be wonderful in the Vindaloo and OK in the Bharta. However, other recipes are new and different, which is great. Too many Indian restaurants make only the same few westernized dishes all the time. They have a lovely Coconut Curry, which we had in the veggie version, which was light and flavourful. They also have the good sense to realize any sauce can be done with any meat or none. Butter chicken works wonderfully with paneer and peas instead of chicken! (Better for those of us who can’t eat chicken.)
The menu is varied. The food is very good quality, with fresh ingredients. The venue is nicely appointed, but not fancy. The service is excellent. We’ve been there twice and will go again. For a place that’s only been open 3 weeks, we saw lots of customers, so it’s not only our opinion.
