Fiona got home from university just in time for Mother's Day. We celebrated both events with a kayak tour. Last time we rented and went out on our own. This time we joined a Mother's Day special tour group. We went out with 4 other paddlers and a guide for two hours. Having a guide with us gave us the courage to travel farther down the inlet, where we checked out Reid Point Marina and the sea lion research station. It was a glorious day, our guide was friendly and knowledgeable, and the equipment was in great condition. From the water, the view of the shoreline and north shore mountains is spectacular. Along the way we were visited by curious harbour seals. The inlet was packed with power boaters, kayakers, sailing boaters and paddle boarders, but our guide kept us safely all together and got us back to shore with no collisions or upsets. Our Mother's Day treat included a delicious ice cream cone at the Rocky Point Ice Cream place. We had a lovely time and will definitely visit again. Next I think we'll try the Plod and Paddle on a Wednesday evening (walk or run one way and kayak the other), or maybe the Women's Kayak evening on a Thursday. These look like great, affordable ways to go for a cruise in our beautiful inlet. Hooray for Rocky Point Kayak!

As older Australians we had no pre-conceived ideas about kayaking but our guide Tim assisted us from the Port Moody park area and then down the inlet. He pointed out seals on the lumber in the river and the local eagle high in a tree. This happy crew of young kayakers also teach people to paddleboard. The scenery during summer around Port Moody is terrific but beware of idiots in speed boats, especially on long weekends.
This actvity is ideal for children through to seniors and it's not as difficult as you think! The owner is a go getter who was raised in Port Moody. He also runs the local ice-creamery. We loved the park, the kayaks and the beautiful Burrard inlet. It was a great afternoon!

We have lived in Port Moody for 20 years. When Rocky Point Kayak opened, we thought we should go and rent kayaks to explore the inlet. Somehow we never got around to it. This summer our daughter turned 18, and was preparing to go away for university. When we asked what she wanted to do for her birthday she answered, "Kayaking."

I'm a 49 year old Mom, fairly fit, with a bit of kayak experience in non-tippable plastic kayaks at family camp. Our daughter has tried the sea kayak once before on a school trip. The staff at Rocky Point Kayak provided us with an orientation to the boats and good advice about how far to explore for our 2 1/2 hour rental. We checked our bags at the rental office and just took our water bottles and cameras with us. The staff helped us carry the boats down to the water and we were on our way.

What a beautiful way to see the water's edge of Port Moody! The tide was in so we paddled almost to the tip of the inlet, then back around along the shoreline past Old Orchard. All of the old familiar places that we have seen from the trails and roadways were transformed by our new perspective. The kayaks are easy to maneuver using a rudder controlled by foot pedals and the paddle for steering. You skim along the surface, about as close to the water as you can be. You can go almost to shore, or way out in the deep. Rocky Point also provided all of the safety gear: bailer, throw bag and PFD for each boat.

There were two highlights to our birthday cruise: first, the mommy and baby harbour seals on the log booms near the sawmill, second, me beating our daughter in a sprint to the pier at the end of our trip. I don't if she let me win. Maybe that was her birthday present to me.

Rocky Point offers kayak lessons and fitness programs. They rent by the hour or longer, including overnights. The summer is over now, and our daughter has gone off to university. I'll definitely go to Rocky Point again to enjoy the inlet some more, and find out more about this great outdoor activity so close to home. I recommend Rocky Point Kayak wholeheartedly for great equipment, wonderful customer service and a beautiful back yard in which to enjoy a day on the water.
