Reviewed March 11, 2012

Went to the Bourne Poacher for my wife's birthday, the food was excellent, the staff brilliant, could'nt do enough for us! great atmosphere. no juke box or big screen tv's, just pleasant background music. we could sit, chat and relax. Well worth a visit, we'll be back very soon.

“Absolutely fantastic pub, great service, friendly staff and outstanding food!!”
Reviewed March 7, 2012

My husband and I visited this pub to meet some friends, have a few drinks and a meal. As soon as we walked in we were met by a friendly face behind the bar who did nothing but make us feel very welcome and was very helpful in the wine selection. We proceeded to sit at a table where the menu was quickly made available. I chose the chicken with black pudding and my husband had the mexican beef. Both of us were blown away by the quality of the food - it was mouth watering and neither of us wanted it to end. Again, the service given was excellent, nothing was too much trouble (my husband asked if his meal could be made extra spicy) and it was all within a very acceptable time frame. Due to the portion size my husband and I declined a dessert and went on to have a few drinks in the bar area as we felt the atmosphere was very accomodating. The fire was roaring, the seating was comfy and we found it very hard to leave. We will definitely be visiting again and will be recommending the Bourne Poacher to all our other friends and family. Thank you all for a very pleasant - and very rare - experience!! :-)

“Friendly family restaurant, great food locally sourced, please move to Blackburn!!!”
Reviewed March 7, 2012

We have been visiting the Bourne Poacher with various family and friends for over five years now. The welcome we receive makes us feel more like family than guests, the staff can't do enough for us, the meals are excellent and it's well worth the wait to enjoy freshly prepared locally sourced ingredients. We have dined in the restaurant, attended Tribute Nights, Young at Heart afternoons and New Years Eve and the warm welcome, good food and superb service never varies. The only complaint we have is that it isn't nearer to Blackburn, can't recommend it highly enough. If you are ever in the area please DO try it.

“Awesome family restuarant - can you move it to the Midlands!”
Reviewed November 16, 2011

If i am honest we visitied the Bourne Poacher by default, we were staying at a local caravan park where the food was awful, therefore our group of 10 jumped in some cars and drove to look for food, the Bourne Poacher is a nice looking place so we stopped, we regularly eat out as a family so are used to places getting a little flustered when we all turn up. No chance of this happening here though, we walked in at 9.00pm, were greated warmly as soon as we got through the door andd advised we would need to wait a couple of minutes whilst a table was prepared, no problem, all the time this was happening the lady chatted away to us as if we were regulars, upon being seated we were offered the menu's by a gent, nice genuine guy ( even more so when we finally realised he was blind or poor sighted- still pulls a mean pint of guiness though 0 well done), the whole initial approach was without doubt superb and would put a lot of more expensive restuarants to shame. Service was fantastic, we ordered, the kids ordered, they were spoken to in a very friendly mannner, not talked down to which tends to be the norm, my 8 year old who is inquisitive at the best of times questioned food choices for himself, requested something not on the menu, still not a problem,we were explained that food would be around half an hour as everything was cooked fresh...was it worth the wait? Most certainly, 8 choices of different meals arrived and all were superb, without doubt,no little soldier coming whilst our mouths were full asking are your meals oK..unlike most places...drink replenishment was good too, as a rule we only tip when service is excellent, we did this time, the bill arrived, a pleasant surprise that was, i questioned why we hadn't paid for coffee's and was told they were complimentary, what a lovely touch, when we finally left around 11.00 pm all well fed and in good spirits we were spoken to again, and made so so welcome to return. This was a short break for the kids so sadly we won't be returning to the area ( local caravan park was terrible),I never leave ratings straight away so as to give my self time to think and reflect. Weeks later i still think the Bourne Poacher was superb,as do all the family, if you are ever in the area DO visit, if we ever are we most certainly will. To all the staff who served us that night and the chef too, a well deserved pat on the back! My only message to them, please, please open a site in the Midlands, good old fashioned service combined with excellent fresh food is very rare here!!!! I feel i can add nothing more to this review, i just doubt my review is good enough to reflect how good they really were so go see for yourself.
