Description: Set next to the sails of the listed Marsh Mill Windmill, Seniors Thornton is in a really handy spot for the UKs best fish and chips! Whether you live locally or make a little diversion off the main through route from the M55 motorway, it's easy to get to, especially with the large car park across the road. Purpose built by the Seniors family in 2006, it's an impressive light and airy home to the 100 seater modern restaurant and the takeaway that was crowned the best in the UK in January 2012. Don't be deceived by the quality of the surroundings and expect to pay over the odds - Seniors are on a mission to raise the stakes for the fish and chip industry and believe in delivering the best possible quality at affordable prices - and that includes the environment in which you eat. This is not your typical chippy and if you really love fish and chips you must pay Seniors Thornton a visit. On the route to the start of the famous Blackpool illuminations and nearby seaside destinations of Cleveleys, Fleetwood and of course Blackpool itself, Seniors Thornton is a perfect place for families and coach parties arriving for the lights, or heading home after a great day out. Nice fish n chips, fish is always cooked fresh on ordering.
Has sit in area so if you don't want takeaway there is always that option.

I'm confused. I called in for a "naughty treat" of fish, chips, peas, bread and butter and cup of tea. I was greeted by a very nice lady and given a taster of the fish of the day. Everywhere clean and tidy, service quick, food looked lovely. Crispy battered fish, crispy chips and lots of them, not a drop of fat on the plate , beautiful. The thing is it didn't taste of anything and I don't know why. I ended up putting two lots of salt and vinegar on to try to enhance it but to be truthful if I had been blindfold I would have been hard pressed to tell what I was eating. It looked so good but when it came down to it the taste wasn't there. I was sure it would have been a 5 rating because of all the hype on the banners outside the restaurant and the very promising start when I went in and until I put the food in my mouth it was.

I'm old enough to remember when Seniors used to be a quality chip shop, before it was taken over by the present owners. First they destroyed the restaurant in Staining and now they've opened what could well be the worst chip shop in England with their Thornton "chip shop". I've had take out several times, and while sometimes you do get what I'd describe as adequate chips, by and large the food is awful. The fish is always undercoooked, wet and soggy batter. The fish itself also seems like a frozen slab rather than a proper fillet. The chips are the worst though, usually having been coooked at least 2 or 3 times and are completely brittle on the outside and half-cold. Then the icing on the cake is if you order mushy peas, something one would think was impossible to mess up. Instad of the pale green home made mushy peas we're all accustomed to eating from chip shops, these jokers seem to serve up a fresh tin of bachelors musy peas with extra green colouring included and with the appearance of having gone through a blender; in fact its more like pea soup than mushy peas. The gravy is also usually watered down to the point where it could almost be see-through.

Tonight is hte last time I will ever give this god awful chip shop my hard earned money. Maybe its different if you eat in, but as far as take-away is concerned, this has to be one of the worst chip shops in Blackpool (and thats saying something).

This lives up to it's title of Chippy of the year. The surrounds are comfortable anr the food is exceptional whether you eat in of take out.
We are regulars at the Thornton restaurant but all are equally good. Must try the new one at Bisham Village next.
