Our condo was located in the same building as this restaurant, so we did some research and discovered that is has excellent reviews in Fodors and Zagats. We had dinner and we agree -this is an outstanding restaurant. The service was impeccable to the last detail, and the food was some of the finest we've ever had.
Located on Ma'alaea harbor, the view is fantastic. But that's just the beginning. We split an appetizer, called Salmon Gravlax, which caused us to stare at one another and proclaim almost simultaneously that it was the best appetizer we'd EVER HAD. We decided right then and there, that the appetizer and the view were reason enough to spend an evening at this restaurant.
For entrees, I had MahiMahi, prepared 'Island Style' which was excellent; but my husbands Monchong, prepared 'En Bastille' (see the online menu for explanations) was the prize winner here. We were in ecstacy. Even without selecting wine or dessert, we both agree, the Ma'alaea Waterfront restaurant is not to be missed! Enjoy it with our highest recommendations.

We got a 5pm reservation at The Waterfront for our family of 4. The Waiter was really friendly and helpful. He joked with our kids and gave them special attention. The sunset was gorgeous, whales were jumping in the harbor, and the food was divine!

I thought the wine list was excellent. My wife and I tend to drink mostly Chardonney, so I decided to get a bottle of the higher priced wine that was being served by the glass. It was fantastic. I jumped when I did the tasting and the waiter said I was pulling his leg. But it was that good! They really know how to pick wine.

The fish was the best we have ever had. We both ordered Opakapaka because we had heard that the best fish on Hawaii are the ones that start with "O". My wife had hers "En Bastille" and I had mine "En Papillote". Both were perfection. Two excellent ways to prepare and enhance the flavors of a tender piece of fish.

We will definitely go back.

The Waterfront restaurant in Maalea came highly recommended, so we went to it for a special occasion. Wrong choice.

The waiter seemed to be annoyed when I asked for more information about the ingredients in the fish preparations due to food allergies. His attitude was pretty much "I guess you're stuck".

First, we ordered their specialty Ceasar salad. The waiter brought a cart to the table and made it right there. The lettuce was very lame, there was WAY too much raw garlic (even for garlic-lovers) and possibly mustard or something else sharp. We couldn't even eat it - and both of us love Ceasar salad.

I ordered plain fish (a disappointment - I was hoping for something special). My husband ordered one of their specialties. Both our dishes were okay, but the fish didn't seem to be as fresh as advertised.

We left without ordering dessert and would not go back again.
