“A place to visit when staying in Bogota”
Reviewed September 12, 2013

You can hire a tour from Bogota, but it will be less expensive if you go by yourself by bus. It's
30 min away from Bogota and you can ask for directions once you're at Zipaquira.
It's a great activity when traveling alone or with friends or family. The cathedral was built inside a salt mine and it's located at "Parque de la Sal" (Salt Park).
There you can also access the Museum of mining, mineralogy, geology and natural resources. You will find different options when buying the ticket, and some will include different activities.
Great place to take amazing pictures.

“Via Crucis”
Reviewed September 8, 2013

I was afraid this attraction was going to be corny and touristy but I came away with a much greater appreciation for it by the time I left. The lights inside the tunnel as well as the light show was corny but relative to everything else in Catedral de Sal, they were negligible. My favorite was the Via Crucis, or Stations of the Cross, carved into the rock face. Each station had a unique sculpture or carving. I also enjoyed the video telling the story of the salt mines. The video was effective in showing the extent of the excavations and mining over the decades. This attraction is worth the long drive from Bogota. I highly recommend a visit.

“Interesting, more if you're Catholic”
Reviewed September 8, 2013

It's impressive as a mine and to see what man can do with a mountain. It would have a lot of meaning if you're catholic as you can do the stations of the cross. The video inside is helpful to understand how little of the mine you actually see even though you think you see a lot.
Use the washrooms outside as there aren't any inside.

“Must see while in Colombia!”
Reviewed September 6, 2013 via mobile

Friends suggested that we see the salt catherdral while in Bogota. We hired a driver from our hotel it was about 25 minutes away. The tour guides speak in English while describing each stop. Some of our best pictures were taken here. If you aren't religious it's still a good destination. It is a unique place we read that it is now being considered as the new 8th wonder of the world

“Awesome, amazing!”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

I just recently took a tour down in the Cathedral in Zipaquira, Colombia. I was there Aug 16/13.
This place is amazing, it is approx 200 metres below the surface. The tour follows the stages of Jesus, his birth, life and death. Inside the mine shafts, are carvings of crosses, each area is a symbol of a time in Jesus' life. You can still see salt on the walls and ceiling as you descend to the bottom. At the bottom, there is a church as well as a gift shop, very very nice indeed. I recommend this to anyone who is planning a tip to Bogota. It is located approx 49-50 kms outside of Bogota, it is well worth the little trip outside the city. It is a amazing tour to take in, very beautiful indeed.
