The Hotel Debed has had a number of incarnations, Soviet Era luxury hotel and more recently abandoned relic of a previous epoch. Now, it has reopened and is on its way to being the best option in Sarahart. For independent travelers wanting to visit Sanahin and Haghpat, the Hotel Debed is a great option. It is a short easy walk to Sanahin, and a long arduous walk to Haghpat. The hotel is easy to find once you make it up to Sarahart. Everyone in Alaverdi seems to think the hotel is closed, but it really is open. You can either take the tram up from Alaverdi and walk about four minutes to the center of town, or hire a taxi to bring you up the hill.
The Hotel Debed has been reviewed in other locations as crumbling and closed; in reality, it is under new management and has opened one floor, floor four, to visitors. The Debed is still rough around the edges, but the rooms are clean, the food is delicious, the price is right, and the views are fantastic.More
