“A gem in the mountains”
Reviewed October 23, 2013

We visited this hotel as part of a coach holiday. The hotel seems to be used by British coaches for much of the summer season. English is well spoken by all the staff who were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed an excellent room on the 3rd floor, looking down the valley from our traditional wooden balcony. The room was comfortable and clean. Each morning we enjoyed a good breakfast with a good choice, both hot and cold. Paper bags and cling-film were provided to prepare your packed lunch (an alternative was soup etc. for the days when you were at the hotel for lunch.) Afternoon tea/coffee and cake was available about 4pm each day, followed by a great evening meal, although this was a little limited and was selected the previous day. Our package included inclusive local drinks from 4pm - 10pm which included hot drinks but not spirits. The hotel is on the edge of the village up a small hill but accessible for most levels of fitness.

Room Tip: If you have a choice, pick a balcony room to the front for the views.

Just returned yesterday after staying at this hotel on a National Holidays Austrian Alps holiday. We arrived late on the first day and check-in was quick and easy. Very friendly staff. Went straight to evening meal which could not be faulted. We were not aware that we had to pre order the following days meals but even though we had not completed this until we sat down for the next days evening meal this did not cause any problems. ALL the meals, breakfast, packed lunches (which you packed yourself and you could take whatever you wished) and evening meals were really nice. You could have a really good salad, starter, main course and dessert. We never had any problems or disliked anything that we were offered. A couple of minor issues withe "free bar" but overall nothing that you could say spoiled the stay there. ALL of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Location is great. It is a nice walk to the village but tiring coming back uphill. It is surprising how many different walks into/ out of the village there are. We went on the local ski cable car lift, not as skiers, and had a great time. The day we were up at the top was very sunny, 11 degrees, disappointing no cafe open but still plenty to see and do. The following morning it was -1 degrees and covered in snow. This hotel is really good especially as part of the package we had and from what I saw of prices if booking privately or as part of any skiing package it is well worth staying there.

Room Tip: Rooms at front have more sunshine.

Hotel is very modern, clean and comfortable, staff nice and friendly and their english is very good, food excellent with good choice. Glad we took our own kettle and supplies as no tea/coffee making facilities available in room. Good signal for wifi. We stayed here at beginning of September on a National Holidays Coach tour. Wagrain is a beautiful village but from the hotel it is a steep walk down to the main square taking at least 15 minutes and its even steeper coming back up! The hotel lift is between floors so you still have to carry your cases up or down a short flight of stairs to get to your room. Would highly recommend.

Room Tip: If you want a view ask for a front facing room. If you don't want a stuffy room ask for a back...

First of all many thanks to ALL the staff at this hotel and our National Holidays driver Glen. Now the hotel it was very clean and tidy, great location but up a hill from the village. My wife has a knee replacement and she could walk to the village but we got a taxi back as it was a bit much coming uphill. Food was very Austrian ( some people on our coach seemed to think we were in Spain ) My wife needed painkillers (prescription strength ) the lady at reception phoned the doctor and we got them straight away, great service . We would stay again great hotel.

My wife and I have just returned from this hotel after travelling with a National Holidays Coach Tour. The hotel was very nice and clean and the beds comfortable. A bath would have been a added bonus.
The staff were very pleasant and helpful, especially Peter.
The meals were nice, but a little more variety would have been nicer. My only complaint is that pork was on the menu every evening and if you do not like port you only get one other choice. Breakfast was okay and would have been better if they offered a variety of eggs as scrambled was served every morning.
You can make your own packed lunch every day, but do not get a packed lunch for the return journey as you are charged three euros fifty and all that was in the bag was 2 sandwiches and an apple.
The journey was very tiring but was worth it to see the magnificent scenery around the hotel and on the trips out.
The village of Wagrain is very small and not a great deal there. The walk to the village is down hill, but beware is uphill back to the hotel. A taxi can be arranged at 7 euros each way.
On the whole a very enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: A room at the front of the hotel is recommended.

Enjoyed our stay at this hotel In July. The whole experience from start to finish of the holiday was amazing.

The staff could not do enough for you however Peter went the extra mile.

Rooms very clean and the views were something else in fact breath taking.

Food was good with plenty of variety.

Excursions with National coach holidays were brilliant. All in all and trip well worth it.

We have just come back from a lovely stay at the Kirchboden. The place is spotless and rooms are very comfortable, and the surroundings beautiful. The evening meals were traditional to Austria and nice, if we did not fancy what was on the list we asked if we could please have sausage and chips we got that and another time asked for an omelette and got that too, anything we wanted was not too much for the waiting staff. Tanja was very good explained what was on the menu when we needed to know, and Peter was very good aswell made my nan a perfect latte, did not see much of the other staff but they were all always smiling! Only thing I would advise is to cover the food on the buffet because it was out for quite a while and the flies were around Thank you for a lovely stay. :0)
