This was our second visit to Happy Mountains and we loved it just as much a the first time. We've now stayed in both of the apartments and they are both very comfortable, well equipped (Netflix being a great addition this time around). Emily is a great host, full of information and very helpful. The MPreis supermarket is very close and our favourite restaurant is just on the corner. Leutasch is such a wonderful choice for winter - we came for the walking but the cross country skiing network is the best in the world and the bus system links up perfectly with the downhill skiing at nearby Seefeld. The excellent Alpenbad pool and sauna complex are just a short walk away. Really everything you could ask for. Can't wait to visit in the spring/ summer to see the wild flowers.
Emily and Steve were the consummate hosts & the apartment was perfect for us
Big lounge with corner sofa - funky bunk beds for the kids which they loved
Very spacious bedroom for mum and Dad [with comfy matresses :)]
Nice little kitchen and smart bathroom with washing machine which was really handy...
Location is amazing so much nature on your doorstep; day trps etc...
I would highly recommend this for families and anyone with an interest in nature or activities!!!

As a family we love hiking and cycling and we found that Leutasch was a perfect base for us! Due to the type of holiday we enjoy we normally find that our holiday accommodation is about a 20 minute drive to the nearest shops ... this was not the case here! We could walk along the road from our accommodation to a very well stocked supermarket which was also reasonably priced. We also found that we could walk from our accommodation to bike hire shops as well! It was a perfect location as it was in the heart of a beautiful hiking area but had good amenities as well!
The accommodation had everything we needed including a fantastic wi-fi connection. The rooms were spacious (the kitchen was smaller but again had all we needed!). Emily, the owner, was really helpful and gave us lots of ideas for walks in the area. There was even a trampoline and slack line in the garden which our boys enjoyed!
If you enjoy the outdoors then this really is a fantastic base. We found the cycle hire in the village to be very reasonable (only 15 Euros for the whole day for a mountain bike - you can upgrade to an electric bike if you wish for 10 Euros more). We would really recommend the cycle ride on the paths up the Leutasch valley and into the Gaistal Valley - we cycled over 50km on one day right up through the valley where you can get quite close to Germany's highest mountain (Zugspitze) - a fabulous bike ride. Our sons really enjoyed the downhill part on the way back!
One of the walks we would really recommend (which is very close to the accommodation) is the walk up through the Puittal Valley to Scharnitzjoch. This was a really beautiful walk and we saw some incredible wildlife including three Golden Eagles soaring high above us and we came across 10 Chamois grazing near to the joch about 15 metres away from us - an incredible sight (we have only ever seen them in the distance before!)
We would also recommend starting a walk from the Gaistal valley (which is really an extension of the Leutasch valley - just higher up it). The parking costs here can't be avoided but they are not too expensive (4 Euros for the whole day). The walks are beautiful and well worth paying the car parking!
We would also recommend the walk along the gorge at the end of the Leutasch valley and into Mittenwald in Bavaria with it's beautiful Bavarian painted houses (if you enjoy a longer hike) - you can just do a circular of the gorge itself if you prefer to keep it shorter. The gorge is quite spectacular (it is advertised as the Spirit gorge as they have added a fun dimension for younger family members along the route). The engineering is incredible as the paths are high above the gorge attached to it's high sides and you are literally looking down on the water way below. There are lots of bridges crossing it - it is quite a spectacular and popular walk. Incredibly it is totally free! There is a section at the German end where you can pay to go and see a waterfall at the end of it but the paths through the gorge itself do not cost. There is a charge for parking at the Leutasch end but if you are prepared to walk an extra 300m then there is a tourist information board with parking further up the road where you can park for free.
If you fancy a day where you don't have to start walking from the base of the valley - then taking the Rosshute cablecar in Seefeld is a nice treat! You want a really clear day to make it worth the money. We found the best value ticket (if you want to do some hiking) was the combined pass number 2 (24 Euros for an adult) this allowed you to take the funicular up and then catch a cablecar to the top from where you could walk to the Seefelder Spitze and then on to the Reither Spitze if you would like the challenge (although we were not sure that the latter bit looked that safe) so we opted for a slightly lower down path after the Seefelder Spitze to walk around to the second cable car station - this path also had great views and it also meant we got away from the crowds (which is the biggest problem when using a cablecar to get up a mountain!) We then returned on this cablecar and then back on the funicular - all included in ticket pass number 2.
If you have children or teenagers then a trip to Imst to ride on the Alpine Coaster is a highlight! Both of our sons ended up spending some of their holiday money to have a second ride! It was incredible - 3.5km of downhill fun! We parked at the free car park at Hoch Imst and also walked down and then back up the Rosengarten gorge from this carpark. It was another amazing gorge - very different to the Leutasch gorge but equally spectacular and one we would recommend! We discovered that there is another Alpine Coaster in the German town of Oberammergau as well - although this one is not quite so long.
We would like to thank Emily for a fantastic stay - lovely accommodation in a stunning area!

Had a fantastic holiday here. The apartment is clean and spacious and has everything you need. The town is lovely with a convenient supermarket with fresh bread and pastries just a short walk down the road. Sports shops in town will rent out toboggans and ski equipment. Love the location with lots of country walks in all directions, a babbling stream and mountain views everywhere. Short drive to Gaistal with more lovely walks, and Seefeld where there is late-season skiing and a great swimming pool with slides (Olympia bad) ideal for kids and adults. Great place - I don't usually go back to the same holiday location again, but here I probably will!
A very lovely apartment in a very lovely part of the world. Austria, Tyrol, and Happy Mountains Apartment 2, we loved you and WE'LL BE BACK.
Fantastic location in this stunning valley with easy access to so many beautiful places and varied activities. The apartment was a great size, peaceful and always toasty warm when we returned from skiing or our bracing walks along the local river, in the surrounding hills and through craggy gorges. Even with the lack of snow, there was still plenty to explore. Although the local restaurants are of a high standard, the apartment was well equipped to allow us to cook a meal and watch DVDs. Emily, our host, was a fountain of knowledge when it came to recommendations for places to explore, and was always happy to deal with any queries. Innsbruck is just half an hour away by car, providing an escape on soggier days! We only stayed one week, but could happily have stayed longer. We will definitely be returning, and have recommended it to several friends.
