We stayed for a week in late July at this guesthouse whilst walking in nearby hills. The location is exceptionally pretty at the foot of the Wilder Kaiser mountains but the guesthouse itself was a bit basic. The bedroom was large with a fine view over a large pond but the bathroom was small with inadequate lighting (partly because one of the lights was defective – the proprietor couldn’t be persuaded to replace the bulb!). Towels didn’t dry properly in part because we were blessed with unseasonably bad weather.
Buffet breakfasts were adequate. Breads were unappetising but there was a reasonable selection of cold meats, cheese and hard boiled eggs supplemented by homemade jams and wonderful dandelion honey.
Evening meals were hearty but mostly uninteresting although the local trout on offer were exceptionally good. Avoid the set menu which was dire. The beer was great (it was Austria!).
On a couple of evenings after dinner, the proprietor Jacob sang and played the accordion – he was great fun and had a great voice too.
