“Great Family Friendly Hotel Experience”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

Stayed at the Seiwald 2 adults 2 children (ages 10,8) from March 3rd 2012, we were allocated x2 double rooms as we booked fairly late, the rooms were rear facing and have not been refurbished although they were clean and roomy enough for our needs, during our stay we had 3 !! birthdays and I had arranged to have cakes made by the hotel which were fantastic, Sarah on the reception was very helpful with all of our enquiries and certainly helped make our birthdays special, the food at this hotel is great, breakfast is both hot and cold and our waiter Feri always offered the children hot chocolate at breakfast, evening meals were typical Tyrolean fare and for the children there was always options to their preference, you cannot complain with either the quality of service or the menu they really make an effort to keep you happy. The hotel also has a nice size pool and spa complex which we used each night although we didnt partake in the austrian tradition of going in the knacker !!
On the skiing front we didnt ski in kirchdorf at all as we all are intermediate skiers so we took the 'free' ski bus each morning to St Johann where the kids attended the 'Blue' ski school, bit disappointed with the instructor approach on the first day as they were rather intolerant of some of the kids ski legs although things did improve as the week went by.
Food on the mountain was great hot chocolate and some stodge could be had for less than 8 euros which beats the rip off french prices although the children were doing about 10 euros each for lunch while dining with the ski school. Snow was great for fairly late season and we managed to ski into St Johann village at the end of each day, we also had days at Kitzbuhel and Steinplatte and found Kitzbuhel busy but Steinplatte a fab day out skiing as a family
Beware that on Saturdays the free ski buses are not as frequent as it is change over day and the timetable is different.
We are planning another holiday in this area and would not hesitate to return to this hotel given our experience at this hotel, thanks to all staff at the Seiwald

This was my first visit to Austria, first time skiing, and first time trying gluhwein. I have to say it was one of the best vacations ever!! The staff at Seiwald were extremly friendly and accomadating. The room was small, but I have been told it was a nice size room for this area... (I am use to hotels in the states). The day trip to Salzburg was perfect, (only a short drive from the hotel), the ski lessons were wonderful, ( only 60 yd from the hotel) I could have asked for a more perfect location/hotel than Seiwald. I can't wait to return!!

The previous reviews pretty much sum up what I would say about this hotel!
But I just thought I would add that I am a fussy vegetarian and I liked the meals every day here.
I was told that Austrians don't really cater well for vegetarians and they give you a lot of omelettes and cheese - and generally this was true if we ever ate out at lunch (e.g. a cold or toasted cheese sandwich, pizza, perhaps one soup option, were generally what you would find - in the Hotel Alphof and ski restaurants in Steinplatte anyway). But in the Seiwald, I never saw an omelette on the menu; it was very varied, and to be honest, it was quite weird, but in a good way! And also if you ever didn't want a meal off the menu, then you would be able to make a good meal of the buffet with all its cheese, bread, salad, kidney beans....
The only thing I would say is that I wasn't very impressed with the children's menu - it looked like it was chips every day. And I don't think you would stand a chance of a vegetarian child eating healthily there, unless they could have the adults meal!

Only other comments - we had a shower over the bath. The shower itself was pathetic, but after a long day skiing, it was so nice to be able to soak in the bath and relax - so it depends what your priorities are! (I should add - this is based on probably what was an older room, I don't know if the newer rooms are any different...)

Happy Holidays :)

What a charming experience! This is a very comfortable, friendly and awesomely located hotel at the Tirol area. Great base for sky facilities and plenty of stuff to do if you don't sky as well. Their wellness area is really nice and with the option to access spa services in a neighboring hotel. The hotel staff and management were incredible accommodating to our needs, even before arriving to the hotel. We were able to book spa services before checking in. Breakfast buffet provided ample of variety and dinner has something for everybody, even vegetarians. We will recommend this hotel without hesitation. Thanks to all the staff for making our sky vacation a memorable one! :)

Room Tip: Renovated rooms are more comfortable if you are planning to spend time at the room.

We stayed with another couple at the Hotel Seiwald as part of a ski package and had chosen it for its wide range of facilities and relatively short transfer time (1hr 20) from Salzburg. The heralded warm welcome and friendly service did not disappoint.

Although we were in one of the un-refurbished rooms, it was still well appointed – a decent size with table, armchairs, good-sized fitted wardrobes, Austrian bed (2 large single mattresses in a king-sized frame) and flat-screen TV with CNN, BBC World and BBC Entertainment, plus a host of channels in other languages. The bathroom was well fitted out, with plenty of hooks, a large shower cubicle with masses of hot water and handy soap dispensers both by the sink and in the shower. We needn’t have taken a hairdryer, as the wall-mounted one in the bathroom was very good. The room was always clean and properly made up (for me, the indicator is always a mould- and mildew-free shower area). French windows opened onto a large balcony with gorgeous views up the mountain. A large radiator with effective control made sure the room was neither too hot nor too cold. Like most continental hotels, although bottled water was provided, there were no tea or coffee making facilities so if you are in need of early morning or late night brews then a mini-kettle and your own brew kit is recommended.

Meals were a real treat. It was lovely that, for such a large hotel, the dining room was a cosy Tyrolian-style rather than the all-too-frequent soulless cavern. And the food was excellent. There’s certainly no excuse for going hungry. Breakfast was a 4-course meal in itself – cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurt, dried fruit, cheeses, cold meats, bread, rolls, jams, honey, scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon, croissants, and cakes with juices, coffee and a wide selection of teas. Dinner comprised a self-service buffet salad, an amazing choice of canapés, homemade soup, choice of 3 main courses (selected at breakfast) of which one was a vegetarian option, pudding (or ice cream bar for children) and cheese board. The meals were beautifully presented, always very good and sometimes truly mouth-wateringly excellent (favourites were the duck breast, beef fillet mignon with king prawns, john dory fish and venison casserole). And no write up can go without mention of the final night’s ‘Presentation of the Seiwald Bombe’! Drinks were sensibly priced – a litre carafe of the perfectly palatable house red or white was under 16 Euro. The staff were always charming and courteous and could not have been more helpful.

The leisure facilities were really fantastic. In the basement of the hotel was a lovely leisure pool with intermittent ‘aquajets’, the full suite of baking, boiling and freezing torture rooms (it’s Austria, so expect ‘naked’ in the latter) and comfortable relaxation area. Fluffy dressing gowns and pool towels are provided in the room. An added attraction, just up the road, is the Gaudi-inspired fitness building, with club bar, sports hall, table tennis, mini pitch ‘n’ putt and a good range of gym equipment. For the Summer there are outdoor tennis courts and for the Winter, another branch of the family offers a rink for a local version of curling. For relaxation at the end of a day’s skiing, try a gluhwein on the sun terrace and watch the sun go down or after dinner enjoy a drink in the comfortable modern lounge bar.

The nursery slopes are just on the other side of the road from the hotel (less than 5 mins walk to the bottom and skiable in the right conditions). The ski bus stops at the end of the road, about a 2 minute walk away, though the main bus stop is beyond the nursery slopes, a 10-12 minute walk/ski/pole away. It’s nearer 12-15 minutes to the bottom of the single chair lift, though, again with the right conditions, it’s possible to ski back down to the hotel, where there’s a handy ski room with heated boot rails. The ski buses will take you to a number of resorts. We particularly enjoyed St Johann and Steinplatte.

We had a really lovely stay at the Seiwald and would readily recommend it for both a Winter or Summer holiday. Expect a warm, relaxed welcome, well-appointed rooms, excellent food, good service and fantastic facilities. Thank you Familie Seiwald and all of your super staff.

We arranged the holiday for my wife and I and our 4 'children' (ranging 17 to 21) to celebrate a couple of special birthdays. From the time we arrived, the staff were helpful, friendly and really made us feel at home. We went on B&B + evening meal basis - there was plenty to eat and it was very good quality. They also laid on cakes and snacks for afternoon apres ski free of charge. The rooms were comfortable and warm and a good size and cleaned daily - the rooms we had between us, all had balconies with beautiful views. Whilst our main activity was Skiing and Boarding, the hotel also had a range of extremely useful and well maintained facilities. In the basement were a lovely indoor pool, relaxation area, steam room, sauna and infra red room - which after a hard day on the slopes were brilliant. Less than two minutes from the hotel was an extensive indoor sports hall including a gym. The hotel is only a few minutes walk from the Kirchdorf ski schools and ski buses to other resorts. The local slopes are ideal for getting 'warmed up' for a couple of days and for beginners and with Steinplatte and St johann a matter of minutes away by bus, the overall ski slope offering is excellent. The hotel is a good size - big enough to support the facilities mentioned, but small enough to retain a family run atmosphere and is very attractive, built in the Tyrolean style. Finally, as I mentioned, the holiday was to celebrate two special birthdays - for each, the kitchen staff went to the trouble of baking a fantastic cake, which I think sums up their overall approach to their guests. Would certainly like to go back again

Room Tip: Two of the three rooms we had were at the end of the corridor and there was a door which you could u...

The Seiwald family has certainly had a look at the comments posted here, and has made a great effort to fix the issues raised.
The quality and variety of food is indeed now quite impressive and is a plus of the hotel: the breakfast buffet offers everything required for an intense day of skiing, while the dinner consists of huge anti-pasti buffet, soups, starters and a great variety of main courses (3/4 choices per day, all different and of great quality)
Others pluses of the hotel are the quality of service, the large and comfortable rooms, the well equipped sports centers.
Yes, it's not on the ski slopes but with a 10 minutes drive you can get to all the resorts of the area (Kitz, Skiwelt, ...)
And the rooms are not in fancy tirolean style, but have all required facilities (Plasma TV, wi-fi) and are large enough to host your pets, if needed
Strongly recommended to all sport-travellers looking also for good food!
