“What a rip off!”
Reviewed September 15, 2009

3,500USD for a primitive accommodation.
Service average (except the yoga teacher guy....he is great)
Food extremely bad and poor. Breakfast buffett was bakery products, cereal and juice...for 1000USD/night this is a joke.
Accommodation is a poor stone cabin, AC noisy as hell, TV is small and DVDs are bad quality.
Swimming pool water cold.
We were lucky not to have neighbours but otherwise you have no privacy.
Massage average....nothing holistic about a massage when the AC is noisier than the music!
Arabian Gulf water full of jelly fishes and smells horrible.

Anyways...this is only half of the things I was unsatisfied with.
Avoid the place as much as you can.

We got special UAE residents' rates to stay at Six Senses Zighy Bay. Whilst it was a lovely setting, brilliant room including a private pool and beach access, nice staff and good food, it was very expensive and we have been to other resorts in the Middle East offering a similar product for far less money. However there was very good attention to detail - the restaurant and bar staff made sure my nut allergy was taken into consideration and they remembered every time I used the facilities.

A surprise weekend getaway to celebrate my birthday and wedding anniversary could not have been more impressive or uniquely indulgent. Six Senses have a vision and eco friendly expression that is quite unlike anything else I have encountered. Forget the glitz and glamour - typical demonstrations of luxury in the UAE; Six Senses create a rustic little "village" that blends in harmoniously with the natural environment, whilst providing tastefully subtle comforts and opportunity for endless pampering (there is a lovely spa in the village), privacy and outstanding service. A highlight is that one can arrive at the destination by paraglider! The alternative is to tackle the rather hair-raising hairpin bends over the mountain pass by 4x4. Having tried both, I can honestly say that I found the airborne option to be less terrifying and completely thrilling. Upon arrival, guests are invited to participate in " Zighy-time" - reset the watches to enhance daylight hours, and are allocated their own personal butler for the duration of the stay. Accommodation is a breath of fresh air - each 'room' is actually a self contained villa with its own pool and outdoor shower and chill-out lounge/majlis. Villas are spacious, open plan and furnished with extremely comfortable, eco-friendly decor. We loved the extensive "pillow menu". Each villa is also equipped with two old fashioned bicycles so that guests can explore the "village" in a fun and easy manner. There are numerous activities to participate in (from martini tasting – an excellent experience, to hiking and various water sports) although the comfy villas left us loathe to leave "home" for very long - preferring to lounge at the pool or majlis and order in cocktails and food. Room service was good and we managed to work our way through most of the menu in two days. The food is absolutely superb! Customised romantic candlelit dinners on the mountain-top or wine cellar tower are also an option. The bath is large enough for two and the out-door shower yet another great touch. Our couples massage at the Spa was lovely and staff throughout the resort are well-trained and liable to bend over backwards to make your stay perfect.
The only downside was that my husband was asked to fill in a form prior to arrival detailing our personal preferences – things like choice of juice, drinks etc. for the bar fridge, and booking a time for a massage and paraglide. Unfortunately the form was apparently mislaid and none of these things were arranged for us. A minor irritation but I would not have expected any of this to be prearranged were it not for the expectation created by filling in the form (a fact I discovered later as the weekend was a surprise for me).
This is a first class resort that relies on high-quality service and experiences to impress. Six Senses is an expensive treat – but it is well worth it on every level. Each of my senses felt completely spoilt and indulged.

This was our second visit to Zighy Bay, and it couldn't have been any better. Rochelle, Yorit and their teams provided us with an absolutely memorable stay and we would now not hesitate to recommend this resort.

Our first visit was not a great experience (previous review from Nov 08 visit), though we were delighted with our return visit which could not have been more different. We had a beachfront villa which was spacious and well laid out and Mohit our butler sorted out everything we needed very efficiently. The food was a particular highlight and the service in all the bars and restaurants was absolutely superb.

A big thank you to Rochelle and her team for a superb and relaxing break - we hope to go back again very soon!

We decided to stay at Six Senses Zighi Bay as an anniversary treat. On making our reservation we were asked if it was for a special occasion, so we did inform them about our anniversary. In the event, our anniversary was not noted at all, which was a little surprsing, we thought 'why ask then?'.

On our arrival, they could not find our 'private butler', and were told another would be sent in lieu. He was AWOL for our stay of one night. We had to make dinner reservations via the operator who did not convey our reservation to the hilltop restaurant, as such, we turned up there for our anniversary dinner only to find out that they had no place for us outside overlooking the bay.

At such exorbitant rates, we expected better service.

On the upside, the restaurant staff were absolutely excellent, treated us to free drinks, took us further up the hill for a special view and were totally fantastic, we completely forgot about the other niggles.

The resort was stunning, however be careful about the room you choose, our pool villa (sorry, room number forgotten) was overlooked by a two-story villa, so people were peeping in on us without even intending to. The snorkelling trips were quite fun too, equipment was in great condition.

All in all though, a really beautiful resort and a great way to spend a weekend. Haven't uploaded photos, because they would have been the same you see on the website.

Just amazing

Great location, even with young kids

Eco friendly

Sustainable

Luxurious

Not for the budget conscious

Dreaming of our next trip there

  • Liked — Loved the peace and quiet...separate villa accommodation means loads of room for everyone, private pool and beach... i just couldn't ask for more
  • Disliked — Would have liked slef locking sliding doors for pool area - could never rest knowing the kids could just walk out door and straight into pool

After a trip to a Six Senses Hideaway resort in Thailand, we had high expectations when we booked a week long stay at Zighy Bay. After flying into Dubai airport, we were whisked away in an air-conditioned 4x4 for the journey to Oman which took just under 2 hours. I have never experienced an arrival at any hotel quite like this one. The roads become dirt tracks and the 4x4 starts to climb up the narrow, steep mountain roads, breathtaking! The descent into Zighy Bay is simply stunning, you can see the resort which blends perfectly into the surroundings. We were greeted warmly by the resort staff, who welcomed us like old friends, a quality I find so endearing about Six Senses. On arrival at our beach front villa, we took in the excellent high-quality rustic finishes, exposed stone floor and wooden furniture, much of it sourced locally. A good sized outdoor area with plunge pool, seating area and summer house and access straight onto the beach meant that you really could hide away in your villa and be perfectly happy. The choice and quality of food available at Zighy Bay is excellent, we dined in our villa and the restaraunts and were impressed with the number of choices. We also took the opportunity to dine at "Sense on the Edge" which I highly recommend to anyone who visits to take in the dramatic moutain scenery. We did not use the Spa on this trip but we did go to see it, and it's very impressive with a vast array of offerings. A couple of things that weren't so great, but outwith Six Sense's control, were tar and rubbish washing up on the beach, the result of irresponsible tankers and trade ships sailing through the Strait of Hormuz. The resort does have a regular beach clean, which guests are invited to participate in. We love the ethos of Six Senses Hideaways, which have a strong sense of environmental and community responsibility as well as being luxurious. If we had to moan about anything, it's the fact that there was no iron and ironing board, which was quite frustrating when the contents of our suitcases were crumpled beyond recognition. Making this available would get extra points (hint hint Six Senses!!)

You are truly in the middle of nowhere here, so bear that in mind if you get itchy feet and aren't happy being in the same place for any length of time. There is a wide choice of watersports and excursions available (snorkelling, dhow cruises, diving etc) to keep you occupied. We fully intend to visit again and again, we love it!
