“Great pool for the kids, basic clean rooms”
Reviewed January 4, 2012

We were looking for somewhere to stay during peak season for two nights which is virtually impossible but break free had rooms available. The hotel is basic and a bit run down but the rooms are clean and our six year old spent hours in the huge pool on the water slide making it the "best hotel ever" in her eyes. It really is somewhere to take the kids on a budget.

We stayed at Alex Beach Resort for 10days with my grandchildren recently and we had a 2 bedroom loft apartment 405. I must say that this is the place to stay on the sunshine coast and this apartment is set up great. They had little extras for you use like bucket and spades ,sterio with cds buggie board etc. Its right across the road from the beach and life saving club but the resort has the biggest lagoon pool I have seen , 2 other pools and 2 spas and 2 water slides. Kids area BBQ area and a little gym. The shops and eating places are just outside if you dont want toi cook but if you want to eat in it has all you need to cook and great meal and a convection oven as well. Its only 15min from airport (sunshine airport) or 80mins from Bris.....I have rebooked to go back again in 3months and would recomend anyone to go there either to relax by the pool or to have a family holday. It was a 2 bedroom apartment with queen size upstairs and either king or 2 large single down stairs,

Room Tip: Go for unit 405 thats the one we had, its got view of ocean and the pool and everything you need exc...

We got a great deal of stay 4 nights and get 2 nights free. We had a 2 bedroom pool view unit on the 2nd floor. The rooms are smaller than other 2 bedroom apartments we have had but we were hardly in it. The kitchen was compact, with everything we needed. We also cooked downstairs on the bbq. The pools are fantastic. The lagoon pool is unheated so it is great to swim in in the morning when it is in full sun. In the afternoon we would swim in 1 of the 2 heated pools. Reception can lend you buckets and spades to take to the beach (usually buy them on holiday and then wonder how you are going to fit them in your case). The kids (4 & 2) never used them at the beach as they loved playing in the rockpools. The beach opposite is patrolled and offers moderate surf. Great for kids. Mooloolaba is a 1.5km walk away. Sunshine Plaza is 5 minutes by car and offers Coles, Kmart, Myer etc. Ice cream shop, chemist, iga, bakery, fish & chip and BWS are all walkable.
My only criticisms would be that their are limited storage space for your groceries in the kitchen and clothes in the bedroom. They provide a broom in the apartment for sweeping up sand, crumbs etc but no dustpan to sccop it up with.

Room Tip: The swim up rooms look good but being on the ground floor everyone can see into them as they walk pa...

Dear Cindyep,

We pride ourselves on providing value for money and we are happy to receive your comments in support of this.

We are also happy to hear your comments regarding the location and proximity to the beach. Often overlooked in reviews, however this is great beach for kids and an easy stroll to Maroochydore Surf Club or Cotton Tree coffee shops and markets.

We are constantly reviewing the facilities on offer in the apartments and have noted your comments regarding storage.

In the meantime, thank you again for your positive comments and we look forward to you returning when next on the Sunshine Coast.

We recently stayed here after snapping up a Travel Zoo online deal for three nights in a two bedroom apartment at half price. Upon booking we requested a second floor room for our family of young children as some of the first floor apartments opened straight out onto the pool (which would be lovely had we been staying there as a couple rather than a family.) Check in was efficient and our request had been acknowledged. Heaps of parking right behind our apartment allowed us to unload quickly and settle in. Whilst the lounge/living area of the apartment was quite small the bedrooms and bathrooms were a good size. The main bed was very comfy! And there was an ensuite bathroom and main bathroom (With washing machine and dryer.) The unit had a nice sized balcony that overlooked the lovely resort style pool.

Our sons loved the fenced playground and the swimming pool with water slides. We were able to have a BBQ with visiting family whilst the kids played safely in sight in the playground. One small negative... despite this being quite a family resort there were no plates, cups or bowls suitable for young children in the kitchen supplies neither was there much in the way of serving platters or salad bowls - a minor niggle but it made preparing food a bit tricky at times.

There were security fences with key card access gates all around the resort and despite seeing other guests let unknown people in we generally felt safe. The resort is on the main road through from Mooloolaba and whilst the road was noisy and busy once in the resort apartment it was very quiet.

All in all we enjoyed our stay at this resort. With a Fish and Chip shop, Pizza store, Cold Rock Icecream outside along with the Surf Club across the road there was plenty of food to be had. The patrolled beach was right across the road and there was a Coles Supermarket just a short drive away. We would definitely stay here again for the price considering the value we got from our online deal.

Room Tip: Rooms in the middle of the resort are in front of a long lagoon style pool with the bottom floor hav...

Dear redhead_on_tour_10,

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with the TripAdvisor community, it is always pleasing to read great feedback about our resort.

Regarding the kitchen supplies, these are great comments and we are happy to keep a more “kiddie friendly” range of utilities at reception, available for families. In addition, regarding the gates, these have recently been upgraded to overcome such issues and thank you again for bringing these to our attention.

In the meantime, we look forward to welcoming you again to Breakfree Alexandra Beach

We have just enjoyed our first extended break as parents with a now adult child who is able to take care of things for longer periods than just a weekend away and what a time we had!!!

We chose this resort from a booklet we received having signed up for one of those flight package holidays over the phone and I have to say, having read some of the reviews we were a tad nervous to say the least. Well, any fears we may have had quickly evaporated upon pulling up outside the resort and strolling into an exceptionally warm welcome at reception. Upon reaching our room, after a walk through beautifully maintained grounds with an amazing lagoon style pool, we were delighted to find a spacious one bedroom apartment on the 2nd floor overlooking the pool and spa. Our apartment had everything we could wish for with plenty of room to move and spread our not inconsiderable wings. (seriously, how much stuff do you really need to take away with you for a holiday in Queensland!!!)

The bed was very comfortable with crisp white sheets (always a big plus!!!), the living area spacious and relaxing with an equally comfortable couch and the kitchenette had all the tools of the trade required for fixing simple holiday style meals. My first test of cleanliness is always to slip off my shoes and wander around barefoot. That way you know in an instant if the floor has been swept (no grit underfoot) and washed (soles of feet do not resemble those of a coal miner). Happily, both tests were passed with flying colours.

As we settled into our holiday routine, I was a bit worried that the noise from the children enjoying the pool facilities might be too much to enjoy a quiet read or afternoon "honestly, I was only resting my eyes" style snooze but no, if anything the occasional squeal of delight only brought more smiles to our faces.

Upon venturing our for walkies and to scout around a possible dinner venue, the lovely lady on reception ( I think her name is Selena) called out to us asking if we were off to enjoy the sun. On hearing our dinner scouting plans, she promptly offered several suggestions even going so far as to recommend which times would be less inclined to have too many family diners attending. Talk about fantastic service!!!

Alex Beach is a fabulous location for exloring all that the Sunshine Coast has to offer and the Breakfree resort was perfect for us and more than met our holiday needs. There is a very good car hire company up the road in Maroochydore (Come-n-go car rentals) if you wish to explore further. They couldn't have been more helpful. Having said that, if you are intending to visit Australia Zoo, make sure you take advantage of the $5.00 p.p. return shuttle bus service as the stop is diagonally across the road from your accommodation at Breakfree.

Dining options are many but if you are a seafood lover, head down to The Wharf area in Mooloolaba and choose one of the many seafood restaurants located there. You are unlikely to find fresher or tastier fish anywhere. We also had a wonderful dinner at the local Indian restaurant "Hathi" which does an Indian buffet from Wed-Sun nights.

So, if you are a couple thinking of travelling to the Sunshine Coast please don't discount this resort as just another family focussed noise fest. Nothing could be further from the truth. It's a great place for anyone considering a truly relaxing chill-out style of holiday.

Room Tip: A pool view is lovely and 2nd floor suited us very well.

Thank you for a detailed and glowing review, in particular regarding the staff, the facilities and two excellent dining options, (both of which are in our staff’s top 5 list).

We are pleased you were able to “rest your eyes” and also take full advantage of near attractions, including Australia Zoo. It appears you were able to accomplish everything you set out to do and we look forward to you returning to Breakfree Alexandra Beach Resort.

I got a one off deal for more than half price for the room so was really happy with our choice. We got a 2 bedroom pool view room on the second level for a brilliant rate.
The facilities at the resort are fabulous if you have kids. The pools are great - 2 spas, 2 heated pools and two larger pools with a waterslide into each and then a large pool going past lower level units connecting the two larger pools. When we went my daughter and I found the larger pool too cold so stuck with the heated pool but many others loved the larger pool.
There is also a little playground for kids on the resort site plus another playground directly across the road and another big playground around the corner.
The room we had was very dated and could of done with some new furniture (the lounge chair was dirty looking and the screen in the shower/bath kept swinging into the middle making it hard to bath or shower). However, overall the apartment was adequate for our needs and for the price we paid can't complain.
The room we had was right infront of one of the heated pools which meant you had constant noise from 7am when the pool closes until about 6pm. However, having a child of our own it didn't worry us and our daughter loved standing on the large balcony watching the kids in the pool when she wasn't swimming herself.
This is a family resort so if you want a get away from the kids or don't have kids don't come here.
Just a tip too - don't get a pizza from the 24/7 cafe at the front of the resort if you like lots of topping on a pizza with a nice base. They are cheap but very average pizzas.
