We stayed here for our one night in Samana. The location is ideal since it is so central and allows you to be able to explore the beach, Vigia Bridge and Malecon by foot. The hotel also has free wi-fi, which is a huge bonus. The rooms were clean enough, although very run down and I felt like they didn't clean the pillow cases. Our room was only $1000 DP a night which was pretty affordable. The air conditioner in our room was quiet and worked well on a hot and humid night. The bed was comfortable enough for a good sleep. Our hotel room also faced the back of the hotel so we didn't get the street noise.

Biggest critiques of this place was that no one spoke anything but Spanish so communicating was a bit difficult for our limited Spanish abilties, no hot water in the showers, and, more importantly, there was no mosquito net over our bed. If the rooms had been sealed off from outside, this wouldn't have been an issue; however, the windows in the room didn't close all the way or had spaces without a screen. Before going to bed, we noticed a few mosquitoes in the room but, when we woke up in the morning, we had been eaten alive so badly that it looked like we had chicken pox. For this reason, I would rather stay elsewhere. The cheap price is not worth it!

Room Tip: Bring your own mosquito net

We stayed at the Hotel Bahia View for 2 nights - 25th & 26th February 2012. We were a budget minded group of 8 (4 adults, 4 young children aged 3-7). We had two rooms at the front of the hotel - with a balcony and fan but no a/c. Each room had an en-suite

Overall it was a great little hotel - and a real bargain as well - for 2 rooms for 2 nights we paid DOP$4,800 (about GBP£80)

The plus points:
* It's very central - a 1 minute stroll to the Malecon
* The rooms are clean, the beds are comfy enough
* Each room has an en-suite with a shower. With plentiful hot-water (at least whilst we were there)
* Each room had a small double and a single bed. Also a small TV and hanging space for clothes - plus a small en-suite - but that's about it!
* Hot water in the shower. We live in a house that doesn't have hot running water - so this is a real treat for us!
* On arrival one of the bulbs wasn't working. We told reception and they were there inside a minute with a new bulb.
* Each morning there is a pot of freshly brewed coffee waiting. Plus free potable hot & cold water (from a dispenser in the lobby)
* The price - £5 per person per night can't be bad
* The hotel is above a pizza restuarant (might be good or bad, depending on your viewpoint....)

The down-sides
* The hotel doesn't accept credit cards - cash or bank xfer only. We live in the DR so it wasn't too much hassle to visit in person and pay the 5-% deposit in cash (at the same time we inspected several hotels and choose this one)
* Very little english spoken - so for non-spanish speakers can be a challenge
* It's loud. Our rooms were right off the reception area and every returning guest passed right outside our door.
* Our rooms didn't have a/c but did have a ceiling fan (fine by us). Others rooms had a/c - they were a bit more expensive can't say if it was working or not.
* A bit cramped for 4 in each room (the kids 'topped & tailed' in a single bed
* No pool!

Overall - a great little hotel. Best suited to people not needing that much sleep. We'd go back again.

Oh - the current email address is: hotelbahiaviewsamana@hotmail.com. We only find tis out when we phoned them and asked!

Room Tip: Front rooms have fan + balcony but no a/c and are a bit cheaper.

I decided to do a road trip with my wife and my 5 years old girl. We spent 2 nights at the "Ballenas Escondidas Hotel", 10KM away from Samana downtown, but then I decided to spend the last night in Samana city.

I saw the hotel the first night we arrived to Samana and had dinner in it´s restaurant. Great food. No so good service.

The hotel is very, very affordable. However, a few surprises await you. First, the air conditioner makes a silly sound all the time, it takes a lot to cool the room but never good for a nice sleep.

Then..... water. Yes, there is not running water in this hotel. Everytime you want to take a shower you have to call the staff and ask them to turn on the pump. On our arrival, we came from Las Galeras beach, and we wanted to take a shower to clean up the sand and salt. This took a while due to the presure of the water. Never enought,

The shower is cover in rust. The bathroom floor was kind of yellow in some areas and the towels were thin and hard. They nearly scrub your back.

Anyway, it was only one night, I am eaguer to get back to Samana to continue exploring, but next time I will drive a bit more to another hotel where there is water to shower, a clean shower and soft towels.

When i arrived to get established in the village of Samana, this is where i spent my first 3 nights. This small hotel is very well located right in the center of town, just about 250 meters from the beautiful bay and marina of Samana. The rooms are clean and very affordable ( around 30 to 35 dollars u.s per night ) and you can get a lower price if your stay is longer. The staff and the manager named Domingo are very friendly and greet you in the morning with fresh coffee on the house. Underneath the hotel Bahia View there is a small restaurant owned by a young american called Terry and they have free WI-FI !
