“What a nice surprise!”
Reviewed May 21, 2012

To be completely honest, I wasn't sure what to expect staying in a budget hotel but we were in for a nice surprise! Made a booking online via the gohotels website and got a wonderful deal, thought that was excellent! Hotel lobby is inviting, very spacious - it includes a small kiosk which sells Leyte's delicacies, a money changer, a car/van hire desk, two conference rooms and a lobby toilet. Rooms are of budget size but enough for 2 people max. We also got an interconnecting room, which made the room look a little bigger. Gohotel Tacloban offers two types of rooms, one with a queen bed and the other, a twin. Both rooms and bathrooms are clean - this hotel just had its soft opening on the 29th April 2012 and its grand opening on the 16th May 2012. The hotel is equipped with a fancy-ish lift (touch screen), which I thought was cool. A spa is due to open very soon so I'm not sure what its like. Laundry/dry cleaning service is available as well at a cost. But no room service available. It is also nice that the hotel is directly beside the Robinsons mall, a mall that had a lot of food and shopping choice, even five cinemas to add to that.

It's difficult to find decent accommodation in Tacloban City as the other hotels located in the city centre are mostly run down. Gohotel Tacloban seems to be in a newer and more developed part of the city. I felt safe all throughout.

A new hotel in Tacloban beside the Robinsons Mall. Good if you just need a place to sleep/rest and you want to waste time in the mall (while waiting for your flight). The rooms are very, very small with just enough space to move around the bed. It's a new hotel hence all the linens, pillows, bedding, towels are new. No room service, if you want something or want to eat, you can go down to the mall. It offers free wifi and have cable TV. The wall of the rooms that separate it from the hallways have windows (why?) hence, don't choose the rooms near the main hallway, you can hear hotel guests coming in and out. Don't forget to check if these windows are lock, enterprising hotel guests might shop in your room.

Room Tip: Choose the end rooms from the hallways, it's less noisy.

This is a very nice hotel with some very cheap looking detailing. The Go Hotel, the Golf Course Hotel (P4000/night) and the Oriental Resort (P5000/night) are the cleanest hotels in Tacloban. You will enjoy staying at the Gohotel. The new 98 room hotel just open 26apr2012 at the Robinson Place Mall. Of course it is spotless and nice. All the rooms (P998 w/out breakfast) are on the second floor, however, they have a very nice elevator. The hotel is a true contrast in that it was a nice superior hotel combined with cheap Jolibee type design detailing. The hotel had two types of rooms, a room with a queen size bed or a room with two twin beds. All the bed types were oversized and had high quality pretty bedding. The room had modern card reading security locks, Samsung A/C and a small flat screen TVs. The CR is compact but upscale with hot water and a "rain" shower. The hallways are very spacious and nicely designed with high open sky lights and pebble rock islands. A common cafe table area was provided for eating and relaxing. This area had Jolibee like design features (not very appealing) Eating or drinking in the rooms is not allowed (P1000 fine). There is no alcohol drinking or smoking allow at the hotel which makes this more of a business hotel than a vacation spot. This is the best place in town to get a taxi. Local transport are P10 multicabs and not the larger jeepneys. Robinson Mall is the most popular place in town on a hot day, especially Sunday. If there is a brownout, everyone will be here because the mall has generators.

Note: The hotel had no room for any travel luggage, not even on the floor. Even a small hand bag would not fit anywhere except on the bed. Good luck in unpacking and dressing.

The hotel did not have a restaurant, however, the mall has about 8 fine restaurants, 4 fastfood restaurants and a nice food court. Jerry's Grill just reopened last week at the Mall. This part of town does not have any night life yet. 6500 Club at Leyte Park and the Astrodome are still the hotspots for night time activity in Tacloban.

The Mall is a great transportation hub. The hotel is close to the Airport and you could take a jeepney (P18) instead of renting a van (P200). If you stay here it is a short Palo jeepney ride (P10) to Red Beach and the McArthur Memorial (unique very creative statue). A Campetic Multicab (P10) will take you to the Tacloban Ocean Parks and the Madonna of Japan. The Calvary Hill Stations of the Cross in town have a beautiful overlook of Tacloban. If you have a car, go to Rafael Farm Garden towards Babatngon and the San Juanico Bridge. Sohoton Cave is much harder to get to.

Room Tip: The front rooms have better light, however, the windows do not keep out all the noise from the busie...
