“Great Food and Service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 25, 2013

One of the best dining places we enjoyed when we visited Tacloban.
The floor plan lay out at the first floor was classy. We were accommodated at the second floor and the ambiance was different but ok.

The personnel were attentive to our requests and were very pleasant explaining their menu. We loved all our orders. The baked scallops were really appetizing. Pizzas were mouthwatering and were served hot from the oven: Giuseppe’s Special Number 1 (beef, ham, mushroom, garlic, onions & cheese) and Capricciosa (Tomatoes, artichokes, ham and mozzarella). We tried as well two of their pasta: Pasta Supreme with Salssicia and Vodka Supreme with Tenderloin. Desserts: Tiramisu (the liquer was quite strong though), Baked Zabaglione with Ice Cream (their version of our saging na saba baked), Chocolate Mousse Cake. House wine was ok. We were given a complimentary shot of Amaretto liquer to aid digestion 

Price is higher as compared to the local restaurants but is not comparable.

Will definitely recommend this place.

“Remarkable first meal in Tacloban”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 2, 2013

It was my girls' first visit to Tacloban and to make the most of it, we agreed beforehand to try only locals- we will not eat in any of the franchised eating joints found in Metro Manila.
As i have not been in Tacloban for over 20 years, the search for a suitable eating place became an adventure of sorts for us.

As we went out to Avenida Veteranos to hail a jeepney for downtown Tacloban, we spotted the signage for "Giuseppe's" - aha! Being fans of two Italian restaurants in Metro Manila, the girls asked if we can try this. We peeked inside, liked the ambiance and the airconditioning so we decided lunch is Italian!

We decided to select items from the menu which we had not seen in our favorite italian restaurant : Sweet corn pizza, Spaghettti with olive oil, garlic & salsiccia and an appetizer. The girls loved it that the restaurant had wood-fired brick oven which baked pizza dough to just the right crispness without over cooking the toppings- the sweet corn is nicely cooked- not burnt or dried. The pasta is done al dente. I forgot the name of the appetizer but i remembered it to be delicious - like pizza dough sliced into triangles with a sort of salsa. The waiters willingly obliged the girls' request for refill of the salsa.

For dessert we had zabaglione with ice cream- we were kidding that this must be saging na saba cooked the Italian way. Well, it turned out to be that way- fried saba slices with caramel-amaretto sauce and ice cream. Wow! Our delicious saba just "levelled up"! The vanilla ice cream was velvety, creamy and not so sweet.

The owner willingly obliged for some photos and chatted with us briefly, welcoming the girls to Tacloban and inviting us to come back for more pictures when they completed their Christmas decoration- " I guarantee you'll enjoy them. I had everything custom-made, i chose them myself," he beamed. The girls in turn suggested that Giuseppe should have a branch in Metro Manila, promising to visit it with their friends.

To cap off the meal, the waiter offered us a shot of amaretto liquer - to aid in digestion, he said- on the house :)

Very pleasant meal although a bit pricey- a good thing this restaurant accepts credit cards which i used to pay for our meal.

“great little restaurant in tacloban”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 26, 2012

Very good food and helpful and friendly staff.
menu seemed more italian than pinoy, but thats fine.
Wonderful to find a place in Leyte that has capers! (on the lapu lapu)
The pork chop was delicious and seemed tobe encrusted with something sugary.
House wine was fine.
Went for a walk and it wqas the only place we found open so we gave it a try.

“Best Pizza in town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2012

We asked around for the history of this place, and we found out that there was an italian who married someone from Tacloban and brought all the trade secrets of Italy here. We ordered ravioli and a pizza just to taste just how great Guiseppe's is, and we were torn by the orders that we got. The ravioli was too salty to say the least, the buttery sauce was too overwhelming for the pasta itself, and this was where being a minimalist would have paid off because the ravioli itself had flavorful filling that we ended up scraping off the excess sauce just to fully enjoy it. The pizza on the other hand was a completely different story as we really enjoyed it. The cheese on the soft pizza dough provided a different taste to how pizza was served in the Manila joints. The pizza was probably the reason why Guiseppe's is well-known in Tacloban, and I have nothing bad to say about it.

The price, for me, was a bit expensive though even for Manila standards. This gourmet pizza place may not be suitable for Tacloban standards being as they brag about cheap food trips everywhere. Other than that, Guiseppe's hands down serves the best pizza in town and one would be crazy not to try it.

“TRULY A TACLOBAN ICON”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2012

good portioning, truly authentic italian, great wine... the osso bucco and steaks we ordered were all tender and with great flavor. Pizza was big and simply satisfying. Pastas were al dente... Dessert was awesome! Thanks for the complimentary amaretto in the end. Trip to Tacloban will not be complete without visiting Giuseppe's!
