“Some rooms need renovation - and pest control”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 17, 2012

We stayed in a "standard" room where the ceiling came down in parts and the bathroom tiles fell off the wall. The room was fairly large and so was the bathroom, but the interior was a bit outdated. The fridge made more noise than the air condition. However, the biggest problem was a rat which was working her way across the roof all night. Because of the broken ceiling we were in constant fear it would plunge into the room. There are VIP rooms available too, which seem to be newer and better (and much more costly, at least double of what we paid for the standard room - $25). Other than that there is little to add to the previous reviews. Service was ok, but not as friendly as in most other hotels in Laos we've been to. You can walk into town, but the receiption can call a tuk tuk, which should be no more than 10000 p.P.Getting one back at night is a problem though, and you can nearly be sure that the charge doubles.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the newer buildings.

This is more of a motel style arrangement than a hotel.

The staff were friendly and helpful, but attention to detail (e.g. cleanliness, etc.) was lacking.

Room was comfortable with A/C, fridge, TV and a huge bathroom.

We chose this hotel from a list provided by conference organisers. Reading previous reviews were expected better than we got! Its a sprawling group of rooms of various sizes in a number of groups. Rooms, all air conditioned, are classified as standard, VIP, and one of higher status. The prices listed ranged from about $US 25 to $100 per night. WE initially went to a standard room which was of reasonable size, clean, but very tired in furnishings. The toilet was quite large and the "throne" was elevated from the rest of the room, and western style. The room was dark and rather forbidding. We decided to change to a VIP room, which was a little bigger, but very drab. Wallpaper was peeling off the walls, the cheap furniture was starting to lose its veneer, and there was a rather decrepit refridgerator and a cable (or satellite) TV with poor reception on one wall. The bathroom was large and dark and had two showers, one with a water heater, the other cold water, but neither with curtain or any form of containment.
The reception staff were pleasant and helpful. A restaurant was offered but it was a strangely furnished room and not encouraging. We did not eat there. The "conference rate" for our room was about $16 per night, room only.

I liked the way the terraced chalets were laid out around a central area and the room itself was pleasant enough with a massive bathroom and a bath as well as a shower...I stayed in a VIP room and do not know what the standard rooms were like. Breakfast was eggs and bread but the staff found it difficult to cope with a solo traveller who was not part of a big asian group that was staying. I believe rice porridge was also available. The reception staff had limited English but we coped. The big negative was its distance from the centre and from the river but "tuk tuks" were economical and many of them. Tuks tuks seem to pack up at 7.30pm or thereabouts so you will be faced with a long walk back from the river if you go there for dinner as I did. The roads are given over at that time to the youth of the town, male and female,on their motor bikes.

I arrived really early in the morning to this place, and got so lucky that the manager was returning from an all-nighter at the casion at the same time. I was allowed to check in even though it was only 5 AM. Got a VIP room (No 5) for 110.000 Kip/night, which apparently was the "Lao price" and didn´t include breakfast.

The room was really nice and clean, the bed was nice and the area was really quiet. It had Aiircon, hot shower, TV and a refridgerator. It had some sort of wireless network, but when I was there the internet wasn´t working.

The whole place looked like a classic motel, with one-storey accomodations streched out in lines all facing the tennis court.

Room Tip: Negotiate room rates with the manager!
