“Pricey but decent”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 15, 2013

Set across the road from the Mekong River this hotel has a lot going for it, nice clean rooms, nice pool, nice food. However there were quite a few down sides for such a pricey hotel, no internet in our room, only in the hallways near modems and an insanely overpriced laundry service which needs to be avoided at all costs! A nice hotel in general but with a price a bit high for the area.

It seems pretty hard to find a "western standards" hotel in Savannakhet. This appears to be one of the few options. It is quite expensive by local standards, and I can't say its a great value, but if you are looking for someplace quiet and comfortable to lay your head, here is a good choice.

This place has the normal appointments that you might expect from any decent hotel in the region. Air conditioning, hot water, a soft bed, television, fridge, keycard locks - all the usual amenities. The hotel grounds are very nice, and the view of the river is beautiful at night. At the time we were here, we weren't really in the mood for guesthouse-style accommodations, so we chose to stay here, despite the expense.

One major disadvantage is the location - it is about a kilometer away from the small "downtown" area of the city, so you really need to get a taxi to go anywhere, there is really nothing within short walking distance. Again, we weren't really concerned with the additional expense for this trip, so we used the hotel taxi several times, spending 160THB for each trip. There are really no taxis around this place, so you either have to use the hotel van, or get a phone number of a local taxi driver and call them to show up.

Additionally, I would highly NOT recommend the restaurant here, its terrible. Better food can be found pretty much anywhere else.

Overall, I found this was a good place to stay - though it really depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for western-style accommodation, and you don't mind paying a premium for both the room and the taxi, I would recommend. It seemed like a higher quality facility than any of the other places we looked in the city, so we elected to stay here and do not regret the choice.

As mentioned by other reviewers there are not many options in Savannakhet, but for $72 usd a night this hotel is very dissapointing:

Pros:
Beautiful place to watch the sunset over the Mekong.
Pool is clean and refreshing.
Staff, while they speak no english they are friendly, helpful and efficent.

Cons:
Overpriced
Rooms are dirty and in disrepair.
Food at the resturant is terrible.

The hotel is facing the Mekong River. Can be very quiet at night and it has a big compound. Price is reasonable priced. There are many places for food - street food outside the hotel. Else, you can travel about 10 mins to nearby restaurants. Good food and cheap price.

Room Tip: Check on the air-con unit in your room to see if it's working and does not give out irritating s...

During my first travel to Lao PDR, I stayed in this hotel for two nights. This hotel was suggested by my friend. Hotel is on bank of river Mekong and one can see Thailand on another bank of river. Hotel is quite specious and rooms are quite good. All facilities in room are provided including tea maker and iron. They also have gym and swimming pool. Language is limitation as except reception staff, other staff will not understand english language. You will need private conveyance for local travel as there is hardly any public conveyance. Do not dare to walk in streets. Dogs are not used to see people walking and will start barking and may bite also. Medical facilities are poor in Lao and one has to go Thailand for the same and that to after 6pm bridge over Mekong is closed for travellers.

Over all the hotel was surprise and I enjoyed my stay in hotel.

Room Tip: Take room with river view.

We were forced to stay in Savannakhet back in 2008 and the hotel we were steered to was terrible, cannot remember it's name, and were not very impressed by the town either. However, we stayed a night at Daosavanh on 28th August and must say had no complaints at all.Well furnished room and sensible bathroom;a very good choice of TV channels, free Wi-Fi, staff all very good and friendly, perhaps the only negative was the breakfast although adequate could be improved a bit.

This is my second trip to Savannakhet. My first trip we stayed at the casino hotel, but because this trip was with our young daughter we decided to stay at the Daosavanh. Very nice hotel and very warm and helpful staff. Yes, Savannakhet is a "charmless" city ... afterall it is a border city, but this hotel is comfortable with a warm staff.
The room was clean and comfortable with plenty of space (actually nicer than the casino hotel we stayed in last time). The bathroom was a bit worn (cracked chalk/molding around the bathtub for example), but clean ... which is all we care about.
The food is good as well. We thought the food would be limited from reading other posts, but we found the menu large enough and well prepared. The onion soup is possibly the best I've had outside of home!
Personally, I don't think the hotel is overpriced or unreasonable. We paid $72 USD per night and to me that was a reasonable price for a deluxe room. The only complaint would be that we asked for a river view. Well ... the room was on the ground floor, so we had a river view as well as a parking lot view. Very minor issue and certainly won't keep me from coming back to this hotel when I need to return to the area.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the pool area seem to be a good choice. Paying the extra for river view is fi...
