We ended our Costa Rican holiday with three magical days at Tiskita. Spotless Cabina with comfortable beds, lovely quality linen, spacious ensuite shower and super views out over the forest to the ocean. The Aspinalls are generous with both their time and knowledge, taking us on fascinating walks in the forest and fruit orchard, with plenty of time to look at things and discuss our findings. Eating "en famille" was a convivial way to get to know the other guests and the food was delicious, fresh, healthy and imaginative.
There was plenty of wildlife going about its business, undisturbed by us - one of our many highlights was watching the birds while taking a dip in the pool.
Buy some of the gorgeous jewellery made by the Aspinall's daughter, not only is it lovely, but you will be helping the Tiskita Foundation, which provides many essentials for the local community.
This is a really special place, well worth the effort to get to. We couldn't fault it.

This is a real eco lodge on the southern Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. It's not easy to get to, but well worth it. Located at the top of a hill overlooking the ocean, the birds and other wildlife are everywhere. My wife and I are not birders or experience naturalists, but we learned a great deal from the family that owns it and other guests. The food is tasty, but there are no choices as to dishes or times. We took several guided walks, and my wife went horseback riding. Great pool. The rooms are not luxurious, but comfortable.

Tiskita offers amazing wildlife viewing and personalized hospitality from the proprietors, and provided the highlight of our family's two weeks in Costa Rica. Peter and Lisbet are delightful hosts with remarkable passion for Costa Rica's flora and fauna, and our family enjoyed their hospitality during meals and hikes in the jungle. The cabins are not lavish, but certainly clean and spacious. No airconditioning here, use the pool to cool off. This resort is definitely in a remote area, so you should expect to be up close and personal with fabulous mammals and also plenty of insects and spiders. We were awoken each morning by birds and howler monkeys, but getting out of bed was rewarded with birds and animals coming right up to our cabin porch in the early mornings. Our teenagers were thrilled with a troop of monkeys interacting close-up with them when walking back to our cabin after dinner one night. The home-made meals in the lodge were healthy and delicious; our teenage son is still talking about the soups and fruit juice blends. Everyone in our family agrees that our extended horseback ride through the jungle and on the beach was the most memorable activity of our two weeks in Costa Rica.

Tiskita Jungle Lodge is not easy to get to but is well worth the effort. The lodge is set in a true jungle setting far from noise and light pollution. We took a very pleasant private charter from San Jose and landed on the lodge's private airstrip.
Our cabin was surrounded by beautiful trees and flowers. The cabin was very comfortable and is made of the most beautiful wood. The porch has a hammock where one can lounge and watch the birds, the ocean and the most beautiful sunsets.
The meals were taken with other guests and we thoroughly enjoyed meeting all of them and getting to know them. The three meals a day were very tasty and plentiful. There was always plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables at each meal. The food is cooked and prepared in the lodge's kitchen by local ladies who made amazing meals and delicious desserts.
We took several walks on the property with Clyde Aspinall, the founder's son and now manager. Clyde is a delightful, charming, friendly young man who is very well-informed about the birds, the trees and the animals we saw. On our walks, we saw many, many colorful birds - toucans, macaws, warblers, hummingbirds, to mention only a few. This is a bird watchers paradise. We also saw sloths, coatis, agoutis, monkeys and various frogs. The wild life is abundant and easy to see.
We walked on the beach and swam in the warm ocean. The lodge provided boogy boards and snorkelling equipment free of charge. There is also horse back riding available although we did not go, other guests did and loved it. The lodge offers many activities as part of the room charge, unlike other places that charge you for the walks, the equipment etc
This was a return visit for us. We came here 20 years ago and loved it then. Now there is electricity, a pool and a larger main lodge. The place is still as wonderful as then but has a few more conveniences. If you want peace, quiet, wonderful food, delightful company, great service in comfortable surroundings this is the place for you.

We are nature lovers, and this was exactly the place to enjoy nature to the fullest! The individual cabins are situated so that you feel as though you are alone in the jungle. It was wonderful to go to sleep to the sound of crickets and the sea and be awakened by birds or even howler monkeys The bathrooms are open to the jungle; and believe it or not, some of my best animal and bird photos were shot from the bathroom! The owner, Peter, is a gracious host and is clearly committed to nature and the ecology of Costa Rica. There are numerous trails to explore either alone or under the expert guidance of Peter's son, Clyde. Each morning, we met Clyde for an early bird watching walk, and it was great to be able to take a night walk with him and see some of the nocturnal animals. We truly appreciated the individual attention! The food is good and plentiful, and there is always fruit juice available whenever you would like some. The open-air main lodge feels cozy, and you have an option of dining at a long table with other guests or at a table by yourselves. The beach is a 10-min. walk away. We enjoyed exploring the tide pools, but chose to use the lovely pool to cool off. We hope to return to this Costa Rican Eden.
