We had booked three nights and extended our stay another night to be able to fully soak up the feeling of remoteness and tranquility before continuing our trip. Melissa and her family, who moved here more than 30 years ago, are true pioneers and their hard work, sacrifice and optimism represent the future of Colombia more than anything we have seen during our trip. In its simplicity, you will find everything you expect from a paradise destination right here at Morromico: true isolation, abandoned beaches, warm waters, excellent homemade food, splendid views, dense tropical jungle and, if you wish to engage in good conversation, interesting guests and well-informed hosts. The newly built "main house" has three spacious terrace rooms looking straight onto the ocean, providing private, comfortable and spotlessly clean accommodation, with only the sound of waves to accompany your sleep. We believe this is the best of any options available along the coast north or south of Nuqui.

This is one of the places where later on in life you will close your eyes and feel you want to be transported back so you can relive that sense of serenity and magic. Where shall I start?! Maybe by saying that Melissa, who has followed in her father's steps and is running Morromico along with her mom and brothers, awaited us in Nuqui airport. Her zest of life was infectious from the first moment and the way she navigated through the local community already gave an indication of how loved and respected her family is. We felt equally welcomed by the locals.

The travel from Nuqui to Morromico is by boat and the trip lasts about 30-40 min and depending on the weather conditions it can be either smooth or a bit more adventurous (nothing serious). If you go during the whale season (July-October) keep your eyes peeled, maybe you are lucky and spot some on your way in. Otherwise the journey is breathtaking anyway. Small jungly islands dotted along the way with colonies of birds swirling around them.

When you reach Morromico you will know you are in paradise. The beautiful sandy volcanic beach opens up in front of you. The jungle seems to flow right into the ocean.
You are welcomed not only by this beautiful landscape but also by Dona Gloria (Melissa's mom) and her beautiful quintet formed of three beach dogs, a wise old grey cat and the youngest of them all a rescue bird called Cleo. All the other staff members are also very lovely and welcoming.

Given its remote location we would have expected a more basic accommodation. We were very pleasantly surprised by the good quality of the lodges. Big spacious places made out of massive wood, rooms that overlook the ocean and have walls that open on several sides so you can enjoy Dona Gloria's beautiful gardens and the jungle. The bed was very comfy and the rooms were cleaned every day. Nice, spacious bathrooms too.

In terms of food, it was the best we had in Colombia. Fresh food cooked well by a local lady. From locally grown fruits and vegetables to herbs, fish and other foods that are common to the area. Everything was delicious, varied and in abundance.
The thing that we enjoyed most is that we dined at a big wooden table with the family and the other guests (varied from 0 to a maximum of 8). The family was very resourceful in sharing many stories with us, that varied from their personal life, to culture, nature, history and adventure.

In terms of what you can do there start by disconnecting (there is no network cover and no internet), bring books and read them in the nice hammocks scattered around the place. Apart from walking around Morromico beach and going for swims (the sea is pleasantly warm and the beach is sandy) you can enjoy guided tours through the jungle (absolutely amazing, you can spot many frogs, birds, reptiles, insects, interesting plants etc), walks to the thermal springs (it is recommended to bring trekking sandals and boots for the area).
The Utria National Park is very close by (30 min by boat) and it offers a great day adventure: swim in calm waters, see the mangrove forests and go for gentle walks. On the way back you can stop at the Playa Blanca, the only white sandy beach in the area (or apparently in the Colombian Pacific).
For whale watchers, it is a great place to see whale activity but it all depends on luck. When we were there we enjoyed watching the spots of the whales through the binoculars from Morromico beach and on our way to the National Park we saw a whale pup being nursed by its mom. How amazing is that?!

We send our love to Morromico family and we wish them good luck in pursuing the wonderful community projects they are part of.

Being in Morromico was one of the most amazing experiences I've had. This place is so beautiful and magical you will never want to leave. This is the perfect place to reconnect with nature and one's self.

Morromico is a private beach so you have the ocean, the jungle and the beach to your self. So private and so intimate!! It is wonderful! Also, it is great place to be completly present since there is no internet or phone signal.

The food is delicious and it is always served on a big table with all the family and guests. It is a beautiful opportunity to enjoy meals the way a typical Colombian family does, sharing stories, laughing and strengthening bonds.

The family of Morromico are the most amazing hosts. They have wonderful stories and they treat you as one of their own.

All the bedrooms have incredible views, are super clean, spacy, comfortable and are connected with the nature. There are no glass windows or mosquito nets (there are mosquito nets on the bed), The breeze, the birds, the butterflies come and go through the rooms and house spaces as they wish.

I wish I had know this place was going to be so incredible so that I would have stayed longer!!!

la experiencia en Morromico fue inolvidable! Que lugar tan mágico y tan hermoso. El servicio fue excelente pues nos sentimos en casa y atendidos por familia.

Guys, this is the stuff of dreams. It's a private island with a happy, healthy wonderful family on a black sand beach with gorgeous dogs frolicking around, waterfalls for bathing a short hike from the property, mountain hiking, incredibly fresh food eaten around a community table, all the stars you could ever want to see...total separation from the world. I've been traveling the world for years, have been all throughout South America, Asia, India and Africa and this is the place I'd been looking for. I was the only one there so they happily suggested I take the private honeymoon bungalow to myself, an open air, beautiful space right next to the sea. Just incredible in every sense.

We just spent 3 days in this beautiful place and it wasn't nearly enough! Everything was just amazing! Nature, untouched and in all its splendor! The whales, PNN Utria, hikes through pristine rainforest, swimming in waterfalls! Divine! The private cabin is a must - so comfortable with magnificent views and Two hammocks to enjoy! The hosts were so wonderful! They went out of their way to attend to our very need, treated us like family and the food was simply delicious!! And plentiful! We have traveled to about 50 plus countries, have traveled all over Colombia in the 5 years we have been living here and Morromico is up there as an all time favorite! There is no internet here which was a wonderful gift to give ourselves as individuals and as a couple! We leave completely relaxed and refreshed! Thank you for everything!!!!
