Reviewed September 23, 2011

I stayed at the Hotel Alte Post on 20 September 2011 in the main section of the building. The price we got (EUR 81, including breakfast for 2), which was the price for a standard room but judging from the size of the room, it was larger than the 20 sqm indicated for a standard room and may therefore have been an upgrade. The furnishing is simple (double bed with sitting area for four, desk), but the room had a relatively large balcony and a flat screen TV, which was a little oddly placed on the right-hand side of the bed. The bathroom had a shower and bath, i.e. it was reasonably sized. Considering this is a 4* hotel, I would have expected complimentary soaps or bath gel and shampoo/conditioner. However, there was just a liquid soap dispenser next to the sink, which was out of reach from the shower/bathtub and it was not clear whether the liquid was just a liquid hand soap or suitable for the use on body and hair. However, this seems to be a rather common occurrence in Austrian hotels. Noteworthy was the excellent quality of the food (Austrian/Tyrolean cuisine) available at the hotel's restaurants. The choice of wines was however rather uninspiring. Staff at reception and at restaurants was friendly and competent. Internet is free for hotel guests but WIFI reception in the room did not work on the 3rd floor.
Overall, this hotel is good value for money.

Rooms were more like a 3 star old fashioned however very very clean. There were no tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms. The prices of a tea or coffee were expensive. I had a cold and needed hot water for Lemsip and was charged for hot water at the bar. However I questioned this on the bill at checkout and this was removed. The restaurant staff were friendly. However the menu was limited. Apart from a vegetarian option only chicken and pork was offered every night. This always appeared and tasted deep fried and natural sauce "fat" was accompanied with it. Simone who worked in the bar was very friendly however a non english speaking receptionist wasnt. We would often walk through the door and go unoticed. Finally for those unaware Austria allows smoking in public places. I would leave stinking of smoke and have sore eyes !!

This hotel is friendly, well run, clean and very comfortable. It is family run and we were made to feel very special, the food was exceptional and there is plenty of it, the menu is all in German so some knowlegde of the language is helpful but the staff are always willing to explain what is on offer, the fillet steak we had for Christmas eve was huge and one of the best we had ever had, then the lights on the Christmas tree were lit and all the restaurant sang Silent Night, it made it very magical! The hotel is in a lovely village and although we did not venture out of the Hotel at night there are some bars and cafes for those who had the energy after being on the slopes all day! The brochure did not do this hotel justice we were really pleasantly surprised and will definitely return.
