We have just returned from Thassos and were pleasantly suprised to find out the road up to the village of Kastro had been asphalted. We have not visited Kastro before, mainly because of the road and not having a jeep to navigate the previous track. The new road is great, takes about 20 minutes to drive to the village, whilst being able to take in the fabulous views.
The day we went was quite cloudy, but the whole experience was atmospheric - from the silence of the mountain to the lovely old houses, especially so when we visited the bone house behind the church.
Well worth visiting.
