I stayed at the Cabinn Scandinavia this weekend with a group from work. The choice of hotel was not ours.
I had read the reviews before traveling and was more or less prepared for what was about to come.
Tiny "boat cabins", with tiny bathrooms where the toilet and the shower meet each other. Steep ladders to bunker beds, noise, and the possibility of bloodsucking bedbugs.
Well, all of my expectations were met. For my dismay. And the dismay of the group.
The breakfast was pretty basic. A lot of empty spaces on the counters because the staff does not replace what is eaten up. So, the breakfast is supposed to last until 10, or 10.30 am, but if you arrive a bit before 9am, you might not find tomatoes, cucumbers, "fresh" whole grain or white bread. They have croissant and bread rolls that last longer, since most of us want, uh, real bread. The bread that is supposed to be "fresh" can be hot outside, but still frozen inside. They don't have butter, only margarine and a mixture of butter, water, canola oil and some other stuff. What was supposed to be juice, was dirty, or coloured water and they don't have eggs.
Good news is that this place is in Copenhagen, where you find many places with delicious food to compensate for the breakfast buffet you don't really get at the hotel - even if you pay for it.
The room is tiny, but looks clean at first. The shampoo is really not good. The shower has low pressure, but had very good temperature. The bed is ok. Unless you are one of the "lucky" guests who gets company during the night. At least one of us had the misfortune of sleeping with a blood sucking bedbug at room 331 (see picture attached). The hotel has been aware of the problem at least since 2015 according to reviews on TripAdvisor.
Another guest posted also a picture of a bedbug and says that the hotel denied having them in their rooms. Well, we took pictures, captured the creature and gave it to the receptionist. Hard to deny that. Our fellow traveler didn't get much as compensation for it and all the trouble she will have coming home - freezing and boiling belongings and hoping that the beasts won't come into the house, in which case she'll have to spend a good amount of money to sanitise it. And this is actually true for all of us.
They are not necessarily cheap, as other, even 3-star hotels, had better deals for the same dates, they have bedbugs and are not interested in doing something about it, they have a pretty lousy breakfast, and tiny bathrooms.
The positive is the temperature of the water in the shower, and the location.
On my personal search for hotels, Cabinn Scandinavia would never show up, and if it did, it would not be chosen. This stay just confirms my initial assumption.
