We stayed for four nights in Keepers cottage in April and had a wonderful stay.
When we arrived there was a delicious lemon drizzle cake waiting for us, the cottage was perfectly equipped and Lydney has thought of all the extra little touches that makes your stay perfect with fresh eggs and milk to having herbs, cooking oils and other household extras that you don't have to bring with you or buy once there.
The woodburner made it a cosy stay and we enjoyed the selection of dvds to watch after a busy day walking!!
Sheldon is a lovely little village with cosy pub, there are lots of lovely walks and we enjoyed a walk into bakewell back along the river to Ashford in the water and the rather large climb back into Sheldon!!
Chatsworth always a favourite and we loved blue john caverns and a trip to Buxton,
Thank you Lydney for a lovely stay and we will definitely be back to see you, Tilly floss and bobbin the Shetland ponies, and the chickens again. Some friends of ours have booked to stay in July after seeing our pictures of the cottage and surrounding area.
A perfect place for a quiet retreat away from the stresses of a busy life.
The cottage is warm, comfortable and equipped for a romantic hideaway. It lacks nothing to enable you to cater for yourself with two towelling robes, a welcome cake, eggs, tea, coffee, sugar and milk. Like home from home. The animals are a joy to see but the ponies are capable of giving a nip (The dark one gave me a kiss). There is a public pathway just down the road with a few stiles to climb, true countryside.
A fantastic little cottage, small but perfectly formed.
Stayed here with a friend at the beginning of April, it was a great base from which to explore the area. Lovely homely touches, such as a cake (amazing!), dressing gowns, eggs and a pint of milk upon arrival were greatly appreciated.
Would love to come back, hoping to rebook at some point in the near future.
I wanted to book a weekend away and found Keepers Cottage at a reasonable price, in the countryside and with a local pub. The stay went above my expectations. Before arriving I was sent instructions on how to find the cottage which made it really easy - the key was in the door when we arrived so there was no hassle of a 'check in'. I loved that there were chickens and two ponies in front of the cottage, great for 'people' watching.
The pub over the road was a proper old school local pub but it served okay food and cheap booze. There was everything we would need for the weekend in the cottage, towels, coffee, tea, eggs and milk plus a homemade cake.
We walked into Bakewell one day and did the Sheldon Walk another, the walk consisted of following some instructions on a laminated piece of paper which got a bit confusing at times but was relatively easy to follow and was a nice walk. It took around 2.5 hours in total and we stopped off for ice cream!
I'd definitely look to stay here again.
