Booked here to be near to Chatsworth and Haddon Hall, which are both nearby. The home is first-class and modern inside in every way. The breakfast room is down a spiral staircase, and overlooks the beautiful garden - a step back in time to luxurious service and surroundings. Some may not like the fact that River Cottage is right on a main road (A4), with a smaller road running behind it. Parking is tight with barely room for three cars. The town pub is convenient and friendly, with good food. We ate there twice.

We stayed here for two nights.Wish it had been longer. The accomodation and breakfast can only be described as first class.Everthing had been thought of and it was a handy place to many of the Peak District's attractions. We ate at local pubs and really enjoyed our time. The on suite facilities in our room were quite amazing. What a great bathroom. The garden is wonderfully set out.Jean was most welcoming and explained everthing in the area for us.I can only say this was the Creme de la Creme of B&B's and we will be staying here on our next trip to the UK.

Anyone looking for quintessential British charm must come to River Cottage. The house and grounds are immaculate! I would love to be there in summer to sit by the beautiful river for hours just to relax. The hosts, John and Gilly were delightful! My wife and I stayed at River Cottage for three nights the end of March, and found the place very much to our liking. Our room was a good size by British standards and was very charming. We had a corner ensuite room that was very quiet and comfortable. The breakfasts were amazing! Each morning we were served a delicious full English breakfast on sausage, bacon, sautéed mushrooms, eggs, toasts, and some tasty homemade jams. They also offered yogurt, cereals, granola, and juice. It was large enough to give us fuel for our days of exploring the lovely Peak District and surrounding areas.
We choose the River Cottage for its location. It is very much the quiet get-a-way in every way. The village of Ashford-in-the-Water is only a two minute walk. We ate at both pubs. We made reservations well ahead of time for the River Arms for dinner on the night of our arrival. It was wonderful! I would recommend making reservations, as they only have one seating and don’t seem to take walkins. We ate at the other pub our third night and were very pleased. We did not have a reservation there, but it was later in the evening and we had no trouble getting a table. The food at both places was very satisfying and reasonably priced.
Americans take note. The River Cottage is delightful, and very English. You will love this place! The Brits do, and I can see why. John and Gilly were quite the hosts. We were so very kindly welcomed and treated as treasured guests. John gave us so many tips on what to do, where to eat, what to see, and went beyond his obligation to make us at home. Thank you River Cottage for making our trip to England so much fun! We recommend this bed and breakfast to all. You will not be disappointed!

We stayed for 3 nights in March. Beautiful rooms with antique French beds. Our hosts Gilly and John were very welcoming. The cottage sits next to the river on the edge of pretty Ashford in the Water. We did a nice round walk straight from the cottage up to Monsal Head and back. Breakfasts were wonderful using locally sourced produce. Gilly's ginger and lime marmalade is to die for along with her crunchy home made toast. Enter this in a local show Gilly your sure to win!
There are two pubs in the village 5-10 mins walk away ( torch provided) The Ashford Arms was pretty good pub food with friendly waiting staff. The recommended Packhorse at Little Longstone was booked up, so try booking several days in advance, next time perhaps.
This was our first time in a B&B usually choosing a cottage or Hotel, we would highly
recommend staying at Riverside Cottage a professional and friendly service

A three night midweek break at a luxury b&b which, for once, lived up to billing. Location excellent. Room exceptionally clean, well equipped and comfortable. Hosts very welcoming and attention to detail first class - e.g. torch in room to ensure safe negotiation of final hundred yard or so of walk along road on way back from village. Recommendations on local pubs for meals were spot on - Bull's Head particularly enjoyable.

If I was to make a (very small) request of hosts it would be a bit more fruit available to complement the excellent cooked breakfasts and bars of soap in bathroom rather than bath and shower gels.

Would have no hesitation in recommending River Cottage to friends.
