“Is There A More Welcoming Hotel in the Peak District?”
Reviewed March 26, 2013

This was my second visit to The Riverside, and once again my wife and I were not disappointed. The staff cannot do enough for you (thank you Jo and Christina) and as for the food, well it is of the highest quality. It speaks volumes when the Head Chef has been in residence for 15 years! The rooms are well furnished made all the better by the "extras" fresh fruit, sherry and chocolates (always Thornton's). Add to this the hotel is so well situated for the likes of Bakewell, Ashbourne, Buxton and of course Chatsworth and you would be hard pushed to find a better hotel in all of the Peak District! Some recent reviews have been a little negative about one member of staff, I can safely say she has gone! There is nothing negative to say about The Riverside.

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet and comfortable, try for one facing the river to enhance your stay.

I was travelling home from the Highlands and wanted to break up the journey and found RHH from a random internet search. Selected their DBB Spring Offer of £99 per night. Quiet location and very homely. Friendly and helpful staff. Comfy bed - I had the Rose Room on the ground floor with French windows overlooking the lawns. Good restaurant with a set menu and plenty of choice. Requested something for breakfast which wasn't on the menu yet this posed no problem. More boutique-style overall which suited me well. Thank you.

Room Tip: The Rose room on the ground floor has French windows and looks out across the lawns and parking bay...

Would recommend this hotel to everyone. The accommodation, restaurant, etc are first class. The staff are A class and warm and friendly at all times, they make sure your stay is special every time. The rooms have everything you need with fruit and milk fresh daily. The restaurant is top class with a great wine list and a wonderful menu changing throughout the year. Looking forward to our next visit which will be in the not too distant future I hope!

This is our 4th stay at the Riverside in less than 12 months. Once again, we had a fantastic stay from the moment we arrived and were given such a warm welcome. We stayed in one of the garden rooms and was beautiful and spotlessly clean. Dinner was stunning and as usual service is second to none. Breakfast again was superb.

We feel that this hotel is our boltholt being only just over an hour's drive from where we live but it feels like a millon miles away, it is so relaxing and even though we only stayed the one night you come away feeling fully relaxed.

Once a very big thank you to everyone at the Riverside and we will see you again soon

We joined friends for a meal, having not been to the Riverside for a number of years, and sadly I don't think we will be back. The meal was 'nice', the Hotel comfortable, and the decor good. BUT the evening was ruined by a domineering waitress who was intrusive, eavesdropping on our conversations, and even taking over the conversation. There was another younger waitress who was lovely and tried hard.
