Around 23rd June 2012 had a beer in this pub and beer is great - very well kept. So decided to have a meal. I chose fish and chips unfortunately. Fish probably average but chips were soggy but brown. Hows that done? All our group thought the chips poor. Unfortunately the landlord had disappeared by that time and the waiter did not seem to want to know. We had met the landlord the previous evening so I am sure he would have wanted to know and the menu does ask for feedback.

Just what a village pub should be. Frequented by visitors and locals alike, the pub is family and dog friendly. The real ale is kept to perfection. This is something that the landlord takes a great deal of pride in, hence the highly deserved 'Cask Marque' award. An impressive selection of whiskey, including my personal favourite, Bushmills Single Malt. All the drinks are reasonably priced. As I live nearby, and am not particularly into eating out, I have only sampled the food on a handful of occasions. However, when I have eaten here I have been impressed by the quality and variety. There is a nice mix between traditional pub grub, and some interesting specials. The attached tea rooms provide the heartiest breakfast that you're ever likely to try; just the thing to set you up for a day on the hills. All the staff are professional and friendly, making The Old Hall by far the most pleasant pub in the Hope Valley.

We went for evening meal as many pubs in the area do not serve food on a Monday night. Bar staff were friendly and food, fish & chips/steak & ale pie were good. Could see into the kitchens from our table and it did not look as clean as it should be.

This charming eighteenth century hotel is located in the Peak District village of Hope, about two miles from the tourist village of Castleton, and about fourteen miles from Sheffield.
The food is typical good pub food (i.e. steak and ale pie, cod and chips, etc), at reasonable prices in a general range of £8 tor £9.
Also one or two not so usual options such as mediterranean omelette, and a must for anyone who likes brown chips.
Fair value.
