“All day opening ........”
Reviewed March 3, 2014

Food great and at affordable prices ( particularly the Senior Citizens menu ) and with plenty of choices from a wide ranging menu . Try the sponge pudding with custard, , Mmmmm ! Service more than satisfactory . For us though the USP is all day opening ! So many pubs are open for a couple of hours at lunchtime meaning you have to suit them not the other way around , not to mention those pubs with ` food available ` signs outside only to walk in and to be told ` sorreeee we stopped serving 5 minutes since ` or ` we`ve no chef today ` as happened only yesterday ...very very annoying .

“Great place for Sunday Lunch”
Reviewed February 27, 2014

We went to the Hanging Gate a week last Sunday and we all enjoyed our meals. They were good sized helping and were really hot when they arrived. I had the mixed roast platter which came with three types of roast meat and lots of veg.

thinking of paying a ruturn visit soon.

“Excellent value Senior Lunch Menu”
Reviewed February 18, 2014

We have visited the Hanging Gate a number of times for lunch and Birthday parties etc.

Today we visited for lunch with a family member who has a celiac diet problem. Nothing was to much trouble to tailor a superb meal to suit her diet. Being a visitor from Australia she was very impressed with the friendly service and value.

“Hunger abated at the Hanging Gate”
Reviewed February 17, 2014

Whatever you do...do not go and get a take away from the Last Empire Take away in Chinley!!!

After that scare on our second night in the Peak District, we decided after reading reviews for other pubs nearby,to try this one. It has quite a big veggie menu and we had the veggie wrap with chips and salad.Huge amount of crunchy veg in a delicious sauce. Don't get me wrong, this isn't gastro food just honest, decent, hot, fill you up after a days walk ,grub and this pub is not pretending to be anything else.
My daughter had scampi she said was to die for,and hubby had veggie shepherds pie and veg,all gorgeous and yes large portions but no-one forces you to eat it!
For pudding I had a fruit salad and meringue, not one bad fruit in it, beautifully presented, didnt realise you could make it look so pretty ; had raspberries, pineapple, apples, oranges, kiwi and grapes, gorgeous. My son had chocolate fudge cake "the best he'd ever had" and boy does he know his stuff! Hubby had delicious treacle sponge and custard!
the staff are very friendly and welcoming! what more could you want. The loos too are very clean! This pub is extremely old and has a nice relaxed atmosphere. Very decorated and lit up has a wacky feel to it! the teens loved it too.

“A shame”
Reviewed February 16, 2014

The staff are friendly, the decorations wonderful.....the food a total let down! Cheap ingredients, pre-made, nothing fresh, the menu is huge suggesting that nothing is made there and then. Just very disappointing. The entire place is reserved for dining so no chance to just pop in for a drink which is no good for a pub really. I shall not be going here again that's for sure! Like I say, the staff are lovely and it is a beautiful place....at Christmas the decorations really are quite spectacular but as a place to enjoy a meal it is a definite no no.
