“Great atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2013 via mobile

Perfect cosy pub, staff were very friendly and food looked nice. Loved the open fires and the fact playing cards were available for loan over the bar! Great end to a day walking.

“Dry Powdered Mash - Really?!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 19, 2013

I have visited the nags head several times before just for drinks. I decided to stop off here in October with my girlfriend for lunch. I ordered the mixed grill and asked for the chips to be swapped for mash potatoes which I was told was fine.

My food came and first impressions were that for £12 the meat was a bit on the cheap side, poor quality sausages etc but the thing that really got to me was the mash, sorry, Smash! Not only had they not used proper mash potatoes but they had also not put enough water in the powdered mash meaning it was still dry and powdery in the middle. For £12 I was pretty annoyed.

The staff also seemed more interested in the TV than the quality of my food and it was evident that he was a member of staff on a salary.

“Food keeps getting better”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 9, 2013

Well, I had my yearly pilgrimage back to Edale and the Nags was our base as usual. This time we also decided to stay in one of the refurbished cottages that are above the Pub. We have been told they are getting a face lift again next year but there is nothing wrong with them as they are.

As for the food it just gets better. Steak and Game Pie with chips, Beef Chili and Chips to name but a couple of what we had over the weekend.

No longer doing breakfasts in the morning due to a gentlemans agreement with the camp across the road so for that you have the choice of Coopers Farm or like us you could go into Hope for a nice breakfast before you walk.

“Start of the Pennine Way”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2013

Edale is a beautiful village and a fitting start to The Pennine Way. My wife and I stayed at the Kinder Cottage overnight for an early start the next day. The cottage itself was really nice and had everything you needed apart from towels. It was a VERY expensive overnight stay and to not be supplied with towels was rather disappointing. Pennine way walkers using B&B's don't normally carry towels due to the extra weight so you have to have a drip dry shower or roll on the carpet. Apart from that it was a pleasant evening in Edale.
