The Taverna is the in-house roof-top restaurant at the boutique 5-star Naxos Island Hotel. To date, at least, it accepts casual diners as well as servicing the hotel's guests (popularity is increasing - I would not be surprised if they have to restrict availability for casual diners). Booking is essential.
Expect a dining experience that is a cut above anything you will find at the beachside tavernas or on the Paralia in Chora. No paper tablecloths here! Service is excellent, the menu (Greek and International) is creative and features dishes you won't find elsewhere. Dishes are prepared to a standard of cuisine and presentation that will delight. Prices are very reasonable, maybe a euro or 2 more you would pay in an average taverna. The saganaki starter with marmalade and balsamic vinegar (you won't find that anywhere else) is superb.
The rooftop setting overlooks Prokopios Beach, Stelida and Paros: arrive a bit before sunset to get the full effect, with the setting sun framed by an architectural homage to the original Portara. The overall feeling is very personal and exclusive. Expect Vangelis, the proprietor, to come by at some stage during the evening to make sure everything is OK.
Highly recommended for a romantic dinner with That Special Someone.
