We decided to visit this after hiring a car. If you stay in the Trou aux Biches area it is only a short cheap taxi drive away and costs only 200 Ruppees each (approx £4 each). We choose to have a guide at the cost of 100 Ruppees (£2)

It is a lovely stroll and has many varieties of plants... This is where the guide was good. She pointed out what everything was along with some of the history.

The lily pads were my favourite. An overall Average experience... But a nice stroll in the park

Very interesting for a gentle stroll through a well tended arboretum. A fine example and a wonderful way to familiarise yourself with the species found in Mauritius. Bear in mind that most of the trees growing are descendants of imported species and few are indigenous.

I am not big on plants, gardens and trees, but this botanical garden is stunning. My tips, get a guide to walk you trough it, as most of them are fun and you'll learn a lot.

The gardens are beautiful and amazing as other reviewers will testify, however it is an arboretum not a botanical garden ! Look out for the butterflies, go early in the morning or after rain to get the full benefit.

Don't book this as an excursion if you are staying in Grand Baie at a cost of 400 rupee plus entrance fee ! Either catch the 95 bus which runs through Cap Malareux, Bain Beouf, Perebeyre & Grand Baie along coast road or the frequent St Louis express bus which drops you at the back gate, only short level walk to main entrance, it will cost 75 rupee (under £2) each way. We actually picked up a taxi from the bus stop for our return journey to Grand Baie for 100 rupees.

Entrance fee is 200 rupee but you will need a guide to make sense of what you are seeing, They do not pre agree prices for the tour with you, giving the impression it may be free, it isn't. We knew the cost was between 75-100 rupees beforehand, but the guide left this to the givers discretion, asking for 1000 rupees as a joke.......some people may actually fall for this but full marks for trying !

The tour lasts about an hour but do take the time to explore further, the grounds are expansive and the tour only covers a very small area. Strangely there was not a cafe on site, just small snack vans in the car park or cafes on the approach road. Plenty of places for quiet contemplation !
