“Stay on the beach is best”

Yes this is an important botanical gardens, by any standards, but how many of us are genuinely interested in hundreds of varieties of very large trees?? We visited on a very humid day, quite pleasant but lots of mosquitos and, on reflection we should have had another day lazing on the beach instead. Heathens !!

“Wouldn`t call it a "must see"”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

We took a bus to get there from Pereybere. It was easy to find.
In general I would call it a nice and peaceful place, very good for a walk, if you like flowers and trees, it is a nice trip.
I would recommend taking a guide at the entrance, the walk with him takes usually 1 hour, we paid 100 rupees for 2 people and he showed us the most interesting flowers/trees.
At the end we saw some turtles and other animals, nothing interesting (giant turtles are much better in La Vanille.

If you are going there, don`t forget the insect repellent - mosquitos are terrible in February :-)

“Beautiful place”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

I will be honest we did not spend a lot of time here but that was due to a huge tropical storm hitting when we were in the middle of the park and getting a bit lost and surrounded by hundreds of frogs. But aside from this to be immersed amongst tropical flora and fauna on well planned paths is lovely. The lillies were particuarly wonderful.
Definitely worth a visit

“A bit of a let down really”
Reviewed February 23, 2013

I first became interested in visiting Mauritius many years ago when Air Mauritius ran a poster advert campaign on the London Underground. The poster showed a lady sitting on one of the lily pads dressed in an Air Mauritius uniform and from that day on I was determined to visit the Island one day! We have visited a number of Botanical gardens throughout the world with the highlight to date being Sydney. On arrival at the ticket booth we bought a guide book and paid our entrance fee and were then approached by one of the local guides who tried to pressurise us into paying for a guided tour suggesting that we would miss things if we didn't go round with him. This proved to be complete rubbish as not only can I read a map but my sense of direction is pretty good too! For the next hour or so we wandered around the gardens and I eventually saw the giant water lilies some of which were in flower which is quite rare apparently. The Lotus flower pond and palm trees were also impressive. We had a good time and the weather was lovely however there really isn't that much to do. There are some animals including giant tortoises but nothing exciting. The gardens do not have any refreshment areas and there is no shop at all, there are drink and snack vendors in the car park but you have to come out of the gardens to buy anything. All in all a bit of a let down.
