“Friendly small hotel with excellent breakfast.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2012

This is a small hotel situated in the small town of Fjällbacka. Its located close to the harbour where the boats leave for Väderöarna island and Valö island. Its also only a short walk from the busstation. The rooms all have names instead of room numbers. We stayed in the one called Yoko that is situated on the top floor with a window and a view towards the sea and the harbour. An amazing view. Furniture were a bit old and worn but functional. There is a flat screen TV, wifi is free and worked ok. There is no safety deposit box. The bathroom was large and had a bathtub with a shower. We had dinner in the restaurant and can really recommend it, lovely fish dishes. Breakfast was an extremely good buffet, plentiful and beautifully presented. Im not sure Ive had a breakfast as good at this in any other hotel in Sweden and still I have travelled a lot. There was a nespresso machine free for the guests to use. Different kinds of juice but also smoothies. Muesli was presented in small glass jugs that you picked and took to your table. The youghurt or milk was also to be put in a glass jug. An interesting way to serve this. There were ingredients for omelettes, fried eggs or scrambed eggs and a pentry in the middle of the room so one could make your own omelette. A funny thing that actually worked quite well. The restaurant where breakfast is served has a view towards the sea. I strongly recommend this hotel even if the price for an overnight stay is a bit on the high side. Its not luxury but very well kept and friendly.

Stayed here one night. The hotel have very individual and exotic rooms.
They have bar and restaurant and we had some seafood and hamburger. All to good liking.
Breakfast served in an cosy environment where you can cook your own eggs.
Hotel is recommended but book early as only few rooms.

Fjallbacka is a pretty small town. It is quiet and relaxed outside the season. We visited in November and it was a wonderful stay. We got a nice out-of-season-discount price as well. The Stora Hotellet is well maintained and the rooms are interesting. Our room had a spacious bed and very nice bathroom. Free Wi-Fi. The breakfast included all the basics and was good. I can understand that some remark a potential noise problem as there is a bar located in the hotel, but as we stayed outside the season (and therefore the bar was closed) we didn't experience that as a problem. The hotel is centrally located in this very nice town. Perhaps isn't the hotel worth a visit on it's own, but the town definitely is, and then the hotel would be a good place to stay.

I've stayed in many hotels throughout my life and the majority has lived up to my expectations.
Seldom – if ever – have I felt so let down like I did after my stay here.
We couldn't get to sleep before 1.30 AM the first night because of the high volume from the pub. And that was with my earplugs put in.
We finally got to sleep but missed breakfast because we "had to" oversleep to be ready for the wedding party the next day.
When we checked out I said that I expected a discount because we didn't wanna pay 2000 SEK/night and not be able to sleep. What happens then? The receptionist questions me! She doesn't say "oh, we're very sorry, of course you shouldn't have to pay full". Instead she says "hmm, strange that you heard it from your room".
She promises 400 SEK cheaper stay, but when I leave I see on my receipt that she just gave us a discount of 100 SEK.
2,5 percent cheaper. Wow.
Add to that:
The bathroom smelled bad, there were stains in the tub and when we asked if we could use an iron the iron was gone.
The "minibar" contained a couple of bottles of wine, soda and light beer – not in a fridge though.
So to summarise: I haven't got lower value for money in a hotel ever before. Stay away.
Any positives?
Well two: The dinner was excellent and the view over the harbour is breathtaking.

We spent a weekend in beautiful Fjällbacka at the most wonderful little hotel. It only has 23 rooms and is situated right in the centre of this litte fishing village. We got the most comfortable big suite in two levels containing livingroom, staircase up to a big bedroom with a huge balcony overlooking the sea. On top of that, the room was ajoined by a huge bathroom with sunken bath. We had a glass of wine and enjoyed the breathtaking view of the sea before we dined at the Restaurant Galären. We had booked the weekend package in advance and were overjoyed with it. Everything went perfect, loved the food, the wine, the room and Fjällbacka. Everybody was so friendly and welcoming. We will come back to this wonderful place.

called in at the hotel for a coffee as the rest of the town seemed to be closed, (this was midday on a pleasant thursday afternoon) the receptionist refused us as we were not staying at the hotel. I left with the impression that we would not have been served if we had been staying at the hotel. We had looked at staying here but having read the reviews on this site decided against it, and we were right to do so.

We tried staying at this hotel, but it seems as though they do not want any guests... After our booking (by e-mail) we received a reply saying "do you want to book this room?". Yes, of course - otherwise we wouldn't have sent a booking - d'oh!?!

After half a day, we got an e-mail back saying the room was sold to someone else... When we tried to ask for alternative solutions, the only reply was "We do not have time to read e-mails all day long".

Thank you, but we stayed at another hotel instead...
